2006 mdx engine swap

Question to everyone, I have a j35a5 engine in my 06 mdx but it's crapped out at 333000Kms. So I'm thinking of swapping a j35a8 06 RL engine in or possibly a j37 but I do not know if the bell housing patterns are the same.

But the j37 has been swapped into a ridgeline with a factory j35a9. I know the older mdx 01-03 mdx have a different bell housing than the 04-06. Which is the j35a5 which wont fit any other older jseries trans, which is the same scenario as the j35a8 not fitting older jseries. Just no one has touched the j35a5 so i dont know exactly whag the bell housing pattern is

The J35A8 has the newer "Headers on Head" system that Honda Introduced later on, When they introduced that system the bell housing changed with it so we know for fact those engines wont work with the Ones that used Ordinary Headers..
So if you are looking for a replacement to your 06 perhaps the J37 will fit? Don't quote me on that though, but remember that the J37 is still the MOST EXPENSIVE J Series Engine to buy used so you are probably better off getting the one it uses.

Update

Just an update. The j35a8 mounted into the mdx perfectly. J35a5 and j35a8 share the same transmission bolt pattern but i had to shave down the j35a5 starter to work with the block. But otherwise pretty much direct swap if anyone else needs to do it

Did you use the MDX manifold spacer on the J35A8?

NICEEE!
Makes me wonder if the J37 would have been a direct swap as well.. How much did the J35A8 cost if you don´t mind answering?

The J37 would bolt up as well. They're priced though

Yeah I seen the prices of the J37.. Is pretty silly how much they ask for it used.
