2005 MDX Belt whistles/chirps @73000 miles

1 It is not a very loud whistle/chirp 2 Only happens on a cold start up 3 Lasts about 10 min only. 4 Belt has no cracks, no threading on the edges. 5 Auto-tensioner indicator is right in the middle of the proper range. Guys, I’d be grateful for any ideas in troubleshooting this whistle.

There is a service bulletin out for this issue. Give me your email and I can send you the pdf of the TSB.

Chirp From the Timing Belt Area (TSB 08-031)

SYMPTOM
A chirp is coming from the lower timing belt area. The
noise is most prominent at idle, usually after the engine
has warmed up.

PROBABLE CAUSE
The idler pulley mounting surface is tilted, causing the
edge of the timing belt to rub against the side of the
pulser flange on the drive pulley (gear).

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Install a taper shim kit and, if needed, grind a deeper
relief on the engine mount bracket.

I'm hearing a chirp or more like a buzzing or whirring from my 2004 Base MDX as well. About 137,000 miles. I was going to buy a new ilder and tensioner pulleys/kit (where to buy from? It amazes me how much dealers mark up parts) for my mechanic, and it probably wouldn't hurt to replace them, but perhaps the issue is this?

many thanks -

It's time to replace the belt based on it's age. Even though you don't see cracks the rubber's density has changed.
