Hi,
Just checking in - This is my first post. This is my first Acura. A green 2001 MDX with a saddle interior and silver factory fender and nose garnish. I'll post a photo as soon as I am able (15 Days right?) Issues - Not completely sure but I think something in the suspension is worn, It makes a kind of a booming thump when it goes over certain bumps or rough spots. Not having driven a new one previously I can't be sure but I think the steering COULD be a bit more accurate - I'm thinking sway bar bushings or tie rod ends, or both - maybe shocks! I am going to ask my local Acura dealer Service Advisor to drive it and give his opinion. The front doors don't hold at their open detents. There's probably more - the vehicle is 8 years old and has 124K on it. I am looking forward to sharing information with you and other enthusiasts. I am coming to Acura from Porsche-Audi cars(944/A6/A8) and must say the vehicle is already impressive in it's quality. |

Year: 2009 Model: MDX Tech, Sport, Entertain + wheel locks Price: 43,5k Total, not incl. roof rack, taxes, license Purchase date: June 2009 Color: Billet Silver/Taupe Miles: 700Avg MPG: meh Mods: - Did permanent wiring for left-dash-mount Bel 995 Radar - Slipped some wire under the rugs for an under-seat 10Amp power station: - 2 USB ports for phone chargers - 2 12v sockets for MP3 and other - Overpaid for roof rails and crossbars at the dealer (looking to sell crossbars - I like my Yakimas) - nice phone holder on flat area of dash to the right of steering wheel - bought cheaper IR headphones for kids to break Issues: - Seat memory module inoperative when new, now fixed Upcoming: - Side molding, door edging - aftermarket trailer hitch for bike rack - maybe tinting Gripes: - if remote can open all windows with a button, why not close? - Rear window lock button locks rear windows for driver too! But I just opened all windows with my keychain, so now I need to unlock them, and put them up. Then my kids start messing with them, so I need to lock them again. - If you tilt the TV screen all the way forward, so that you can lean back and control the DVD for your toddlers, the screen goes blank. Why let it tip forward if only to go blank? - Seat heat buttons are in terrible locations. Sure to get activated by mistake, front and rear. - Sport/Comfort ride button in terrible location. Should have been on left dash near VSA button. - "Ashtray" labelled as 'Not an ashtray'. OK, I don't smoke. But it's not much of a storage compartment either. Can't get anything in or out of it, hidden behind the shift lever. - Why do I want flip covers over my 12v and 110v plugs? Because I want another step in the plug-in process, or because I want plugging things in to require two hands? Actually, I don't. - Remote control doesn't confirm car locked...unless you click it twice. Second time gives a confirm beep. Why do I want to use two clicks for what should be a one-click job? - Voice control sucks. Who can ever remember all the commands and the 'correct' way to say things? Say it wrong, and something you didn't want to happen happens. - Trip computer (MID) is 'customizable' but not very. I have a relatively simple desire to see the outside temperature and the elapsed minutes since the trip started at the same time, but it can't be done. You can see wonderful displays of useless SH-AWD or tire pressure data, but of what real use is that info? - FM radio reception weak - jarring ride (firmness, road cracks, etc.) - Not enough 12V plugs - Not "too many buttons" but too many poorly designed buttons and terrible UI - Why do I need two sets of "voice command" buttons on the steering wheel. Couldn't they combine? - Why are many setup items for the Nav not under the "setup" heading, but hidden in other menus? - Why do the menu screens not have a consistent layout? One uses a arced list that pans down, others use a "click right for more", still others use a circular cluster. - Why is "go home" a two-click, 6 rotation, two click command sequence? On my Garmins, I hit the "Find" button twice, and I'm on my way. - I prefer touch-screens - ...there is so much more that is poorly designed. Trying to take advantage of my $5k worth of tech and ent upgrades has been more frustrating than I ever imagined. I read the reviews of "too many buttons" but I have never met a tech gadget that I didn't buy/figure out. I've owned 10 digital cameras, 8 GPS, 20 mobile phones, and lots more. I write this stuff off taxes, and figure it all out, and do consulting on it. It's not a problem of "too many buttons". It's that the buttons and controls don't make sense. I wish I could have my $5k back. I'd slap a Garmin Nuvi on the base model MDX, and throw some ripped DVDs on a Netbook for the kids to watch on long drives. Heck, I've already got the Nuvi and the Netbook with movies, so it would have been a lot cheaper. So, I guess I like the MDX overall, but there are a boatload of Tech and Ent gripes that have sapped the joy out of my new-car-owner experience. |
