Though at $54k, I think Mercedes is smoking drugs.

^Starts at $48K. Not really any options I couldn't live without either.
Edit: story said you can option it up to $70K?!?! Okay. That's ludicrous.

Had some time to kill Friday & after stopping by Honda for a couple parts, swung into the MB dealer next door.
They only had 1 CLA & it was the demo car. I've seen a couple on the road & haven't been too impressed, their demo car was Black on black & the proportions look better in person on a black car.
Took it for a short drive & was pretty impressed. It's pretty quiet inside, aside from a few minor squeaks/creaks (center console had a creaking sound if you put any weight on it). But aside from those, it was a pleasant car to be in. Not S-Class comfortable, but the seats were adequately supportive & the back seat, while a bit firm, was roomy enough for me with the front seat setup for me (I'm 6'0" 150#).
Salesguy was one of the best I've talked to, knowledgeable & not pushy at all. He said the CLAs have about a 6 month order time, unless they have an order back out. They can't keep them on the lot, their entire allocation goes to sold orders & when one backs out they are gone within 24-36 hrs.
Not exactly what I'm in the market for, but if I was in the $36k range with my current requirements for a new car (4 doors & a bit smaller than the 2G TL) I'd be seriously interested, I think.

This is just a horrible car. Why do they lie and try to make it like it's a good deal at '29,000' when it's not really 29,000? At 34,000(their actual price).........it's incredibly sub standard.
When you sit in a new Lexus ES.....it feels like you are sitting in a 40,000+ car. The way it should be.
When you sit in a new Mercedes CLA...it doesn't feel like a 34,000 car.. it feels like a 19,000 car.

Nope. Bixenons are an option with LED taillights. Leather is another package since it comes with their MB-tex standard. Then if you want auto climate, heated seats, and a rear camera they're in other packages.
The MB-tex is actually not bad, I'd be fine with it over leather to keep the cost down.
If I built it like theirs was optioned, it's 36k.
If you really wanted a base CLA (31k after T's & such), it do-able. According to the guy I was talking to, all you have to do is put down $500, they order it & when it comes in you take it. If not, they give you your $500 back & it's off the lot in under 48hrs (in the current case of the CLA).

They drive pretty much the same. I drove one in TW, friend's brother in law just got the A45. Not gonna lie, it is VERY VERY fast, even compare to most of the FIed 6 cylinder turbos.
So i have no doubt that the CLA 45 will just be as fast. But the proportion is so off and weird looking.

A45
I still think the CLA is a nice car, just $$$. Certain colors make the proportion illusions looks better. The black CLA250 I drove looked great compared to the white & red ones I've seen on the road.
A guy at our church got a silver one (250) & with the sport pkg, it looks good too, IMO of course.

From here: CLA-Class Sales Come In At Double Mercedes-Benz?s Expectation
Mercedes-Benz’s new CLA-Class is selling far better than the automaker had expected, according to Dieter Zetsche, the CEO of Mercedes' parent Daimler. The compact sedan, which is priced from $30,825, including destination, has proven so popular that tight supplies (in some cases just 10 days) are now causing Mercedes to lose potential sales.
"We could have sold twice as many vehicles, easily, compared to our planning," Zetsche told Automotive News (subscription required). The reaction has been "beyond our optimistic expectations."
DON'T MISS: Lamborghini Veneno Roadster For Sale: Just $7.4 Million
The CLA was launched in the U.S. a year ago and saw its sales peak at 4,895 units last October. However, back in May sales slowed to 1,214 units because of supply constraints. In response, Mercedes added a third shift at the car’s plant in Kecskemet, Hungary.
The plant made close to 110,000 CLAs over the past year and this figure is expected to grow now that the additional shift has been added. Some of these extra cars will reach U.S. showrooms, but Zetsche declined to say how many.
Note, Mercedes has just started selling GLA-Class compact and it may prove just as popular as the CLA. This model is priced from $32,225, including destination.

If they switch to FWD, may be they wont be able to charge as much money as now....
One thing I notice about the CLA: whenever I see one in traffic while I'm driving, the proportions look odd. It's very nose heavy and the back seems stunted.
But when I'm standing next to one, it looks nice. The nose is a bit big but the proportions don't look bad and the tail seems bigger.
It's weird.

Yeah - I've had that problem with this car. From certain angles I love it. From other angles I really dislike it. I want to like it because it's within the range of possibility to afford, but so is a 2/3/4 series (for the most part), along with A3/A4, and those all look good at any angle.

What?
