Waterproof/Underwater camera thread

Picked up a Panasonic Lumix TS20 for my Hawaii trip past month.
It is rated at waterproof down to 5 meters.

First day of the trip, went snorkeling with the camera, and after the first pic, the camera shut off. The entire trip the camera wouldn't turn back on.

Needless to say the camera was returned.
I fault myself for not having a backup plan. Lesson learned.

So, any good cameras out there that play well with water?

I recently saw a commercial of the GoPro Hero 3, which comes with a water proof housing and it looks like a great camera for water shots.

GoPro. I have a Hero 2 and it's great for just about everything sport related, including water and the Hero 3 looks even better!

I would say Go Pro for now. Hero 3 is overpriced. I'm actually a huge fan of Sony's Action Cam, although I won't buy until the AWB is fixed.

As good as the GoPro can be, they serve different purposes (vs waterproof point and shoots), just depends on what you're really gong for

I have the Oly 770sw and no issues with the water at all, though I haven't taken it to 33'. The battery is another story...I dislike proprietary batteries with a passion!

I have the panasonic ts2 and have had no problems with it. Other than being a little slow from the point in which you press the button.

I have taken it down 10 feet in water with no problems.. But I mostly bought it for cycling for the shockproof part of it.

I had an Olympus 1030sw. Only reason I say had is that I haven't been able to find it since we got back from Tennessee. I'd like to start looking at replacements soon. Must be water proof/resistant to 30ft, operate in freezing temperatures and be shock proof to similar specs as the old Olympus. My current front runner from the minimal looking I've done is the TG-820 iHS. To be clear, I am looking for a point and shoot not a video camera.

I have a Fujifilm Finepix XP50 that the wife and I took on our honeymoon. We spent most of our time in the water and the camera was always with us. Picture quality is pretty good and the camera held up pretty well. We only use this camera when we go on trips where we will be in the water most of the time.

Guess what...I'm going to Hawaii again next week.

This time I'm prepared. Picked up a GoPro 3 Black. Can't wait to shoot both video and stills underwater.

I'll be posting up some pics once I get back.

I haven't seen any pics in this thread yet, if you guys have any, don't be shy.

Remember, everything looks 'smaller' underwater...

Back from my trip. Went swimming with the sharks in Hawaii...check it out. Video shot with GoPro Hero 3 Black. Watch in 1080p for best quality.

Going back to HI next week. Will get good use out of the Gopro, especially on big island.
