Acura: Compact SUV news
http://wot.motortrend.com/acura-hond...#axzz2PtyzzUQ2
Honda and Acura are about to debut two slick concept cars at the 2013 Shanghai auto show, both catering to the Chinese market. The compact Acura SUV and large Honda people-mover will be joined by nearly production-ready prototypes inspired by the previously shown Concept C and Concept S.
We’ll skip right to the Acura teaser sketch, which shows a small crossover that could slot below the RDX in the automaker’s global lineup. From this sketch, we can see the Acura concept will have a large, bold front grille, huge wheel wells, and LED taillights that stretch to the top of the rear liftgate. Considering the RDX has become Acura’s best-seller so far this year for Acura, you never know — we may one day see a BMW X1 and Audi Q3 fighting crossover from Acura.
The Shanghai-bound Honda concept reminds us of the refreshed 2014 Honda Odyssey as well as the not-for-U.S.-sale Honda Stream people-mover. We’re not likely to see any production variant of this Chinese Honda concept. Also appearing at Honda’s 2013 Shanghai auto show stand will be nearly production-ready prototypes of the Concept C “middle-class sedan” and Concept S.
Should be interesting to see how this turns out

The sizzle in the Steak
Acura concept will have a large, bold front grille

That looks like that Honda Fit-based SUV. No wonder it had very Acura-looking tail-lights. I think it'll be an Acura over there and a Honda over here.

Well if this rendering is anything like the one for the MDX, then it will look NOTHING like the rendering.
That's how Acura rolls

Looks great!
Like I keep saying, let JDM take care of design. No need for US touch...

Love it. Imagine this thing tamed down for production and it'll still be more interesting than anything in the current Acura lineup.

Which Acura SUV is it replacing ?

Ever hear the saying lead, follow, or get out of the way??
If this is Acura's new design direction I'm on the red eye out of town. WTF is up with Acura design. To these eyes that's a whole lot ofiwouldntbecaughdeaddrivingthat.com
But hey, I also don't see the attraction to the increasingly vapid reality shows all over TV especially on channels that had good programming.
So maybe Acura's got a winner here. Personally, I'd rather have a chicken dinner.

This concept is the new subcompact SUV below RDX same as Urban SUV will be below CR-V.
A response to the new (euro designed) Encore and other models popping from the competition, soon for US market Q3.

It shows promise. The side view is busy, but forgivable in a concept car. Grill is an improvement.

Take a look at these actual photos taken by Motor Trend at the Shanghai Motor Show:

While I am not quite sure about the busy lines on the side profile, I do applaud Acura for being bold and adventurous in China! Much more interesting than the current designs in N America.
BTW, isn't this an interesting colour? Not the same old boring silver or black that they usually use at motor shows in NA! LOL

All those hard work in the past five year or so to finalize and unify the signature grille, will all go down the drain if the grille is being changed again.

I just think it gets to a point where we grew out of and away from Acuras because other brands continue to put out a decent compromise of what enthusiasts and the masses are interested in
There's still a beacon of hope Acura will hit most of the marks with a future line up (as unlikely as that may be) that we've been bringing up for nearly a decade on this site.

The key take away from this concept that everyone should be focusing on JDM rectifying Acura's Power Rangers Plenum Grill.
Instead of a plate, I really like the fact they decided to do a sharp, clean, sleek "wing" aeronautic design for the grill. I personally think this type of style should have been what Acura introduced in 2009 instead of the power rangers plenum grill.
2004-2008 was an epic era for Acura; they were the first to alot of things (SH-AWD, etc), but like with all good things, they must come to an end , enter 2009-Current; the Era of the Power Rangers Plenum Grill, awkward marketing, bloated design, and a step behind of everyone else.

The sizzle in the Steak
Overcooked.
Sure, Acura tweaked the beak, but until they get rid of the design limiting 5-point grille, the front ends will always be found lacking.
