M-010: Putting the TL on a diet (Update Links in Post #1)
So, I finally got around to removing my rear seats. Trunk has been gutted for a while, along with floor mats, glove box plate, personal items, light weight battery, engine panels, underbody panels, rear speaker deck, maybe other small items I can't think of at the moment.
After removing the rear seats my car has gotten even more fun to drive.
What a difference this diet has made in handling, and performance.

This thread makes me just laugh my arse off. You guys are taking what is a nice car and ruining it. When I saw what Inaccurate is doing I think the poor guy needs a woman bad.
Call it cheapification of the car. You need power, then bolt on a $5k Comptech supercharger or something or buy a faster car.

anyone know the weight of an A-SPEC lip kit?
I want to change the look of the car but I also dont want to add more weight to it, I am debating between keep it stock, replacing with Type S bumper, or getting the rear A-SPEC lower lip
I am hesitant to get the TYPE-S bumper since I dont want to get quad round exhausts and nothing else really fits in there as good
any #lbs would be great

^^^ the only weight you will be adding is the front and the rear....the side panel replace the existing sides.....so no weight gained there.....
and from experience, i dont think the front and rear weigh more than 15 pounds....how i look at it is, i would add it as it transforms how the car looks (in a good way)....
but as Inaccurate says diet is more of a compromising things hence dont add it LOL...

I am redoing my exhaust yet again (I lost count I think its the 5th time) and will be doing a set up similar to inaccurate but wanted to get your guys input on having the exhaust turn down at the rear axle, instead of having it come out the back. Not sure if it would change the exhaust note or create more drone. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Found the same muffler as inaccurate on amazon for 40 bucks, it said it was used but when it got to my house yesterday I found out it was brand new. I love amazon lol.
Edit: forgot to mention my exhaust shop only carries 14 and 16 gauge and I'm not as handy as inaccurate I wont be able to make my own, so the 16 gauge stainless will do.

Inac, do you have a post or thread somewhere with audio if your exhaust? interior audio and exterior audio? if not can you do a few? pretty please????
I know you said it is like Sonnics open y pipe but am curious to see if it settled down, and also you and Sonnic did not agree on how loud it was

@ callahan
Are you really sure that you want to go this route? My exhaust is super loud. You will have no drone because it is too loud for you to hear any drone. I have been intending to do an in-depth review of my exhaust, but I haven't yet. But, here is a quick condensed version.
I have a love-hate relationship with it.
I love how it makes other drivers react to me. Before, people would ride my ass, people would cut me off in traffic, people would be really rude in rush hour traffic. But now with my single 3", people act totally different. They give me a lot of room and they act respectful. My theory is that they think I am a young teenager (go figure
) and are afraid of me. I like it.
I hate the intense loud rasp at medium throttle. It is a lot louder than at wot. I have learned to just avoid certain throttle levels.
I love the power increase. I gained A LOT. This is why I endure all of the negative aspects.
I love the sound as I cruise down the freeway at 90+ mph. The exhaust is loud but so sweet sounding.
I love the sound at idle and very light throttle. Very intimidating sound in my opinion.
I love the sound at wot. It is surprising not too loud at wot.
I hate the ricer stigma.
I love the light weight of the system.

Thanks for the review on the exhaust, my current set up is already super loud so I'm sure it wont be to different I'm sure. I also have a ton of rasp 2900 and above so im already used to it. If anyone is curious this is my current setup.
Last 19 secs is the best.
Made my exhaust appointment for the 21st so I'll let you know how I like it. I'm still undecided if I should get a turn down or run it out the back, I got a couple weeks to decide I suppose.

Callahan, what is your extact setup now? be curious how much weight you will lose.. well if you go INACs way then a bunch.. but will you go that extreme?
I am thinkng about it myself, I just hung up on single exhaust verse dual exhaust, and also the sound volume... might go a little larger on the resonator or muffler.. would add a few more lbs

If you want a tone that raises the hair on the back of the neck of whoever hears it singing instead of a throaty tone, the single 3" unmuffled system is it.
I am currently attempting to make a few vids. It will take a few weeks although.
Short muffler + 20 gauge = 19.9 Lbs <------ My System
Short muffler + 18 gauge = 25.2 Lbs
Short muffler + 16 gauge = 30.2 Lbs
Longer muffler + 18 gauge = 31.2 Lbs
Longer muffler + 16 gauge = 36.2 Lbs
FOR REFERENCE - Below is the weight per foot of the tubing.
20 GAUGE (0.035" Wall)
321 stainless steel
Weight = 1.11 lbs. per foot
18 GAUGE (0.049" Wall)
304 stainless steel
Weight = 1.54 lbs. per foot
16 GAUGE (0.065" Wall)
304 stainless steel
Weight = 2.04 lbs. per foot
Thanks for all the help inaccurate, I will be doing this set up but might slightly change it to have a turn down to save some weight since I will be using 16 gauge piping instead of 20. We will see how it goes, still havnt really decided what I wanted.

Wow, another person doing the diet.... AWESOME !!!!
Thanks for taking the time to share your dieting experiences. I am looking forward to seeing your progress in the future.

The TL Diet: Woo Hoo, What a Ride !!!
Sorry for the noob question here. I've read this thread before start to finish but it was a couple years ago now.
Has a list been made of all 'diet' parts? Even better with their known weight savings?

Give me a day or two. I post something that will help. In the meanwhile, here is the latest update (see blue link below).

Thanks. I read that post after I saw you have been updating the first post with cumulative summaries. Great job on keeping it organized.
Just a note, and I may be missing something, but on that list you have both lightweight tires and shaved tires counting as weight loss. I'm not sure if that was intended or not.

I first switched to lightweight tires. My listed reflected the weight of the lightweight tire with full thread depth. Then, I took it to the next level by shaving that same tire to make it even more lightweight. My list reflects the weight saving from just the shaving aspect itself and the list is not duplicating the entire tire weight.
Thanks for checking
Hey Inaccurate.
I want to take this moment and offer you an apology for my earlier post. Just didn't agree with all the mods you did but went quite overboard with my comment. My sincere apology to you. I hope all is forgiven.
