Tire

So today with the nice weather and all, I decide to hand wash and detail our MDX. I found a huge gash on one of the tires with corresponding rim edge damage.... a sure sign of a sidewalk meeting the wheel rather abruptly.....of course, my wife now has amnesia LOL.....

Anyway, I can live with the rim, but I think I need a new tire (air pressure is fine, but I don't want to risk a blowout).....I was shocked to find these tires go for as much as $350. (Michelin Latitude 255/50/19).

Does anyone know a place where I can find one tire for under $300...more like $250 if possible.......I am in northern NJ.

don't buy a new tire if you don't need it! Take a picture and post the damage here. The only time that a tire will be damaged to the point of no return on the sidewall is when the tire has a GASH in it that is very deep and is due to driving on the tire while deflated or when you get a hole in the sidewall.

Here are the best 2 photos I could get.....the one that shows the business card inside the gash was used to measure how deep......looks like very close to 1/4 inch.

Looks like a slash from a knife or ran over a piece of metal in the road. I kissed a curb with aluminum rims and it looked like meat grinder all the way arou d

that doesn't look like a tire meeting the curb. you wanna see curb rash look what the previous owner did to the wheels of my MDX.

that looks like metal meeting the rubber. i'd get a new tire as long as the tread is even with the others. otherwise you'll have to buy two tires (you have to get them in pairs b/c of the AWD at a minimum depending on the treadwear of the other tires).

Looks like you have quite a bit of tread still on that one. Any Michelin Dealer should be able to get your some credit for the tire. Michelin gives credit for the tire with in the first 25% of treadwear.

I wound up calling my insurance to ask, and they said they would cover it as long as an adjustor could see the car. Took the car to a well known body shop, they wrote up the claim, and it got done today.....including the rim......paying the deductible was way cheaper.

did you at least get to keep the old wheel for a full size spare? you must have had a low deductible to do it that way.

No....the wheel actually had a hairline crack, and yes, I don't believe in high deductibles.
