snow tire question
I am looking to buy snow tires for the 2011 mdx as it is now being driven through the W. N.Y. snow belt area.
my parents have a 2013 odyssey van, and have a separate snow tire set they bought with tpms sensors at tire rack. however, when the swap was done, the local shop said that only the honda dealer has the tool needed to reset the tpms and when they called, the dealer said they charge 90 each time (so 180 each season). So instead of paying, they ride with the tpms light on at all time.
does the MDX tpms sensor have the same issue? I am thinking about just buying the tire set and paying the 80 bucks mount and balance each time so that I have a functioning TPMS, rather than buying an after market tire and wheel set only to find out that the tpms has to be reset at the dealer.
Is it better to just buy tires and mount and balance each time, or buy a winter tire and wheel set and just swap each time?
Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Burning Brakes
i bought separate tire/wheel set totally worth it. And you dont need to reset TPMS sensors on mdx. it readjust automatically in minute or two while you are driving....

I got my extra rims/tires, with TPMS sensors, from TireRack (Chris).
I told him which car I had and he installed the correct frequency sensors (for Acura/Honda).
I mounted the rims/tires myself and within 2 miles my TPMS light went out.
No local dealership or tire shop was needed.

thanks for the feedback. would it be possible to put another cars snow tire and wheel set with tpms on the mdx? they have the 5X120 bolt pattern off cars like the x5. I always see their snow tire set for sale once they trade it in for another beemer

You should look at your mdx oem rim specs and the specs for the rim that you want to use.
My 2007 oem rim offset is 55

Also for your parents Ody, you can use some of the tools mentioned in this post to fix it:
'12 - '13 TPMS Information And Reprogramming
OR buy HDS for around $100 and never have to worry about honda/acura issues.
