Retrofitting 2011 MDX Advance with OEM Entertainment System
I have a 2011 MDX Advance without the Entertainment package. Has anyone tried retrofitting the Entertainment parts into their MDX?
A couple questions immediately come to mind -
Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks!
A couple questions immediately come to mind -
- Does the wiring exist in the roof to attach the Display portion?
- Does the rear seats have the fan/heat elements for the controls?
Anyone have experience with this?

Both of your questions are NO´s
Acura wont add wiring for components that are not going to be installed so there is no wiring for the RES Screen and the Seats wont have the heating element either. You will also need a different roof lining. You can confirm this by going into the parts diagram in any "Carparts" type of site and search for the RES Wiring or Heating Element they will be Package only items.

This is what makes most retrofit harder and Expensive.. For example someone going from a BASE to a TECH? It will be easier to buy a another MDX..

I have an 11 MDX Adv+Ent. I get sooooo much more use out of my iPad mini compared to my Ent system on road trips (put +20,000 miles per year). I used the Ent to watch a movie about 2-3 times and used it to listen to the radio about 4-5 times in 3 1/2 years and +70,000 miles. I only got the Ent because of the heated rear seats option. I like the iPad mini because:
- cheaper than retrofitting your existing MDX
- front passenger can use iPad mini
- I can switch between vehicles
- you can take it with you in the hotel, beach, plane, work, etc...
- I use the iPad EyeFi app+EyeFi 32GB wifi card in my Nikon camera and it automatically downloads all my photos and movies I shoot with the DSLR to the iPad mini
- Access to apps, games, internet, email, maps, banking, movie, music, photos, camera, camcorder, etc...
- I tether to my iPhone and have access to home comcast DVR, netflix, youtube, etc.. for more entertainment options
- add over the ear Bose type noise cancelling headphones and you have a much more enjoyable ride
I would even pick the iPad over any aftermarket LCD/DVD system that is installed in the MDX.
