Question re: 2003 Acura MDX transmission issues, and suspension maintenance
Hi all,
I've been on this site for quite a while, but have spent my time over on the CL forum after having purchased a 2001 CL-S years ago. I purchased that CL-S from the original owner who had done the transmission recall at the Acura dealer in FL. That car has been an exceptional car to own, and now stands at 162,000 miles.
Now I'm looking to purchase an MDX for my wife. She's set a pretty conservative budget, so I've been looking at 2003's, and have found one that fits within our price range. It's a 2-owner car, and has nearly a complete service history. I'm happy with the condition of the paint and interior. However, the owner was confused about the whole "transmission recall issue", so I decided to take the VIN # to my local Acura dealer, and that's when things got interesting.
According to the service person at the Acura dealer, the transmission recall was "VIN # specific" (their words), and the '03 that I am looking at was NOT part of that that recall.
Does that sound right? I thought when I was searching for my CL-S, the recall seemed to affect all Acura vehicles, all the way in to the '03 model year and beyond, in some cases.
Having said that, the vehicle in question has 178,000 miles on it. My wife intends to drive it for at least the next three years, and then pass it on to one of our kids. Nowhere in this MDX service records do I see receipts for things like suspension work. Assuming that all parts are original, would it be wise to go through the front end and replace parts?

Try checking the Acura Owners site and check the VIN there.
