Hi all,

I have a 2005 MDX, about 215K miles, leather seats and sunroof, otherwise standard - and big surprise, the trans failed last weekend. Engine purrs but she won't go anywhere. Sad as it's an amazing car otherwise, both mechanically and cosmetically.

It's sitting at a auto shop - quoted $4500 or $5K to repair. Blue book isn't off from that number, I don't think.

Begging for advice... we're going to get a new car... I'm doubting I'd get anything for trade in as it won't move... Or do you think an Acura dealer might take it as a trade in? Or if I try to sell privately, what do you think value might be?

Here is one for a 2005 MDX on eBay for $800+shipping ($40-$230 to ship) with TQ converter. Don't know the labor per hour for install in your area. I would compare the price as is to junk it or sell it at a loss compared to investing $2000 to fix and maybe driving a few more months (tax return time). There are other internet sites that have used parts on hand and reasonable shipping.

I did this with my 97 Honda accord when the tranny went out at 135,000 miles. It ended up lasting me +70,000 miles more with the used tranny until my niece finally killed the car when I gave it to her.

On the eBay site, ask the seller a question. Ask if they have a warehouse near you and if that location has a tranny for your mdx.
