Message from god: Witnessed THREE 1st Gen MDX in perfect alignment

Now I must have one, or else I fear offending the car godess.
I was just looking out the living room window yesterday and I saw a white one coming from way up the street, and it made me think that's a pretty distinctive and well integrated and characterful design, even in white which tends to wash out the lines and make any car look fat, this looked right, and also showed a strong family resemblence to my 01 CL-S. So as I was following it with my admiring gaze as it crossed past our house, two gray 1st Gen MDX's also crossed from the other direction, and for one instant all three WERE ALIGNED.

Around here in Norcal there are some creampuffs that show up for sale every now and then, and for $8k or so it looks like one could get a low miles MDX. I would want the black interior and Front wheel drive. But can that peanut brittle looking fake wood be blacked out somehow, as there's no way I could live with that?

You could in theory just pop the VTM4 fuse to stop being AWD but you are still carrying the weight of all components and drivetrain loss..
In order to make it Real FWD and get the benefits of lower weight you need to remove: Rear Diff, Rear Axles, Propeller Shaft, Transfer Case and all the electronics associated to it.

So as a simple test, if it can drive without the prop shaft being in, without setting off alarms, then one would remove the diff and axles to save weight. And everything would still work? Brakes, suspension?

No need to remove the Shaft just remove the VTM4 Fuse and you will be full FWD..
But without removing the weight you are just removing the drivetrain loss up until the Rear Diff, Prop shaft will still spin but wont do anything.

If you remove the prop shaft without removing VTM4 fuse will pop a VTM4 Warning Light because the car will notice the front wheels are spinning but wont detect rear differential movement from the prop shaft. Best combo will be removing Prop Shaft + Fuse so there are no warning lights.

The MPGs will be marginal at best since VTM4 works as full FWD on the highway and after certain city speeds. VTM4 is not a Full Time AWD.
