I was actually looking at the Lexus and the MDX before coming to my decision. I think the MDX is much more comfortable and i have always loved Acuras style, reliability, and service.

As far as MPG goes i average about 22.9 which is pretty good considering most of my driving is not on the highway. I believe the first gen MDX (01-06) is rated at 16/23. The MDX also has a neat trip computer which tells current MPG, Average per fill-up, history, etc.

Look into one. I think you may be pleasantly surprised. Gotta keep the wife happy

From experience, I have gotten up to 23 on 100% highway, 19-20 combined. From recent tanks if I drive strictly stop and go city, it's more around 17-18. Over 2500 miles I have a 20.8 average.

I try to coast when I can and not push the engine unless I'm merging, etc.

^^ Sounds about right. The 2nd gen (07-08) does have a slighty larger engine.

I get an average of about 19 MPG on my 07 MDX, but I have about 300 pounds of added accessories and also love to hear VTEC on a daily basis.

thx for the info guys .... family is growing & need to haul those ragrats so I have a perfect excuse to switch to a better handling SUV (SHAWD FTW) ... granted MPG will suffer a bit 'cuz her RX-H can average between 26-29 MPG depending on who is driving ..

Hey bud .. you are my role model ... LOL .... when I drive my TL, I'm pretty aggressive (70 mph+) .... when I drive my wife's Rx-H, I'm like a whimp ( under 65 mph) .. now if I can change the Lexus into a MDX, then I'm set ...

Then you;d like to hear that 85 is my average cruising speed on the way to work. I drive like a whimp right after filling it up, but as soon as I get on the interstate and have to gun it, I forget about the gas bill. I suggest you drive an MDX, you will be amazed, I was looking at an RX when I was getting the MDX and it is a big difference in terms of driving feel, the RX felt like a floaty boat versus the mdx which felt like a rocket powered tank...

Yeah hers is a hybrid ... when she/her Dad drives, it's about 26 MPG; but I can achieve 29 by coasting/anticipating etc ... but I would be like a grandma .. LOL

Her parents got the Lexus hybrid & then gave it to us when we needed a SUV; now with another one on the way, I want to get a bigger SUV like MDX which would be my choice in the first place ... I know the MDX's MPG would be lower than that of Rx-H, but the performance will make up for that i hope ...

What octane gas do you use? Mostly city?

my 02 gets 17mpg on a regular basis. 24ish straight highway. I prefer the 02 MDX to my dad's 06 RX330 anyday! Love the feel and the ride so much better on the MDX.

We're getting 19 MPG around town and 24-25 MPG when mostly highway driving, using 93 octane gas in our 2008 MDX.

Shooter, my '08 sport mdx averages 26mpg on freeway at constant speed 65-75mph (50% a/c w/windows closed, just me in the car). With 7 passengers on board plus cargo, 100% a/c w/windows closed, it goes down to 22mpg (Vegas trip). In city around 19 mostly in manual mode. On my regular 19.5 gallons fill-up, I can easily achieve 450 miles trip. Gas used, 91 octaine. Current ODO reading is 2,500. Hope this helps.

From all these helpful posts, I think it's imminent that I return to the rightful group of Acura SUV ... I did test drive 08 MDX the other day, but the sales guy was like "no no no you can't take it over 65 MPH on the highway 'cuz it's new " .... on local road, it seemed very stable, not floaty at all ....

Can't take it over 65? LOL, yes, it is a load of BS. A typical car dealer like the one I bought my 2 MDX's from ('07 Tech & '08 Sport/Ent), have typical assigned MDX's strictly for test drives/employees usage/loaner. Out of the 3 different MDX's that I've test drove all have high mileage on them (300-500 miles). Before I test drive the car, I often inform to the internet manager who sits next to me that "I will seriously test drive this car hard & hope you don't mind". They ofcourse would say, no problem, go right ahead & ofcourse, I always floor them on freeway.

LS

P.S. BTW, I hope you're looking at the Sport. Sport Rules!

I have 11,000 on my 2008 MDX. Average has been 18.8 mpg. Its about 60% Highway / 40% City.

Highway driving I get 22-24.5mpg. Only City, its down to about 17mpg.

Its really not bad considering its got 300HP and its a 2+ ton SUV.

haven't picked it up the new ride yet, but will see what I can do during the break in period of first 500 miles ... I would be happy if i can ave. 20 overall as I drive mostly hiwy but when I need to haul the two rugrats around, it's mostly local .. we will see ..

Sometimes I just can't resist hearing those 300 ponies working .... (evil grin)

Just picked up my new ride ... pretty smooth ... but that MPG number started from 6.7 & ending at 8.9 ... I'm "horrified" LOL ... but it's a less than 10-mile ride from dealer to my office ... so will report back here once I logged on more miles ....

From wk to home last night resulted in a combined 14.5 MPG, which is a plus from the initial 6.7 MPG ... figured the ppl before me either hitting all red lights or they had too much flooring this beast ... still long way to go till totally break in since most likely I will drive MDX on weekends to take the kids around town ....

Just reset the trip meter. Probably spent a lot of time idling in the dealers parking lot.

You got that right ... when I picked it up, the sales guy told me they have brought the car from the back & parked in front ... so when I walked over, I found the AC blasting & the music is on, etc etc .... Right now it's about 19 MPG with a mix of HW & local (60% - 40%)...

Happy to report that after 105 miles, my MPG is at 20.3 ... of course I am like a grandma keeping an eye on the rpm (under 3k) & keep the speed under 70 (on hwy) and no hard acc. or hard braking on local .... man it's so hard though let me tell you as I feel I'm only gently tapping on the gas paddle to make this beast go ... LOL

Somehow I am always cautious during the break in period .... so i tend to hold back a bit ... also the last Rx-H routinely gave me 28-29 MPG also has some effect on me trying to produce the best MPG numbers for MDX too .... LOL .... two diff. animals I know I know ... but can't wait till the break in period is over ...

BTW, miami is up on atla, right ? D Wade is da man ....

Hey Shooter,

Congrats on the baby girl and the new X!! I own a 3G TL & 1G X and I definitely prefer the X. The TL is fun but X is definitely my choice of the two. The fuel economy is great as well. I own a RX300 and upgrading from an RX400H to the 2G MDX is a good choice on your part for the family.

Thanks Majofo .... I've seen mostly positive comments here about MDX .. but also checked some other auto forums & the comments there were like 70% - 30% (good vs. bad) split ... makes me wonder if we all are talking about the same car or not ... LOL ...
