Looking to get MDX 2001-2003

I own a 1999 TL and love it. Before that I had an integra GSR loved it too, so I am a big fan of Acura.
Now I want to get a MDX, maybe through ebay. Are there any known transmission issues for some years, as in TL. 1999-2001 TLs are know with their transmission issues. However 1999 are relatively better since they are 4 speed instead of 5 speed. Mine is with the original transmission at 194K. Still rocks...

Are there any known issues or recommendations with MDXs? Will be my first SUV.
Thanks.

try to get an 04+ b/c it has the little upgrades and newer styling (lights, exhaust, colors, little more power, etc.)

try searching on cars.com and autotrader.com for mdx's, if you get it at a dealer try to get the warrantee

good luck on your search and keep us updated on what you decide to do

The 01-02 are prone to similar transmission issues as the 01-03 TLs and CLs. Look for an 04+

Edit: Fixed

03 got an updated Tranny and isn't like the 01-02. I'd still get the 04 instead, much better inside and out IMO.

Maybe I'm the exception but our 01 MDX has been the best honda product we have ever owned. Both the times we had problems with the car were covered under warranty, which were an egr replacement and and a passenger seat belt sensor. Other than that it just been general maintence and would rate it as exceptional for the last 130k miles

They are great SUV's, just some of them had issues...I think it depended on the built date so it was depending on the vin...maybe I am mistaken.

hi? i got my 01 mdx it has 128k transmission is blow out sucks hun?
I dont have warranty now i have to pay at least 4k to fix it.
my 2 other friends have 03 and 04 mdx they said experienced transmission problem too but their cars are under 100k should warranty works but who knows?
i took my car to the service before broke they could not tell me transmission was going bad,
if you buy mdx get extended warranty on transmission.
Good luck

As others suggested, I would go 2004+ if you can afford it. Long-term you'll be happier. And I suggest getting navigation...hands-free operation of your vehicle is worth the premium over a non-nav.

That being said, if this is going to be your one and only vehicle, make sure you test drive the MDX thoroughly before buying one. It'll drive very differently than your previous GSR and current TL....after a while, you may long for a sportier vehicle.

My wife drives our MDX the majority of the time, but if it were my primary vehicle, I'd want to immediately add more power and handling (thus making it more sports car-like and therefore missing the point of an SUV).

Don't get me wrong it's a great SUV and is great for Home Depot wood runs and carrying 7 people, but make sure you want/need the utility of the MDX moreso than the sporting drive of a TL/TSX.

Good luck and let us know how it goes

Good luck
not needed, the 01-02 mdx had the old tranny with the problems

the 03+ mdx's had tweaked engine power and a stronger tranny
