Thumbs up Introduction and first roadtrip [PICS]

Hey guys hows it going?
My name is Kevin and im new to the Acura community and this is our first Acura purchase. My parents acquired this 07 MDX tech back in May 2010, we traded a newer 2008 BMW X5 4.8i (Loved the X5 and i miss all the power and comfort but avg. 8-9 mpg on the city isn't really fun, so is the frequent dealer visits) So far we really like the spacious 7 passenger seating which is way better than the X5s useless third row.

I recently had the opportunity to drive the MDX for 3744 miles from Los Angeles to Calgary, Canada and back. The MDX was quite comfortable and is a great highway cruiser. My only complains are the excessive wind noise, sucky subwoofer and the unsupportive seats. Id like to share some a little bit of pictures from that roadtrip, nothing professional just quick shots.

Life Savers!

The MDX easily cruises at this speed (Picture above is obviously taken on a closed race course)

I got a flat tire on the way back to LA, ONLY 2 miles from home!!!

This was what i ran over, anybody got a clue what it its?

Some trips stats for all you roadtrippers
Total distance traveled: 3,744 miles
Avg. MPG: 21 hwy
Gas stops: 10
Fuel cost: ~$500
Avg. speed: 88.9 MPH
LA to vegas in 3 hours 11 min
SF to LA in 4 hours 30 min

BTW i only encountered around 13 highway patrol officers (8 of them in OREGON!)

Chao!

Hi Kevin...

Congrats on new MDX! And, thanks for the brief review and comparison to the X5. And, thank for the pics -- always appreciated! I have wanting to purchase a BMW like a 11' X5 D or a left over 10' 535i wagon, particularly since the MDX is so damn loud and seemingly unsettled on rough/bumpy stretches of road. Recently drove both wagon and X5 D @ Ultimate Drive. The wagon is wonderful! But that engine scares me with all the issues. I like the X5 in comparison to the MDX, but I'm not thrilled about the price or the possibility of poor reliability. I had driven a new MDX recently too.

Maybe I'll just get a Lincoln MKT. Wife has a relative who works for Ford Credit, so the discount is very nice. The thing is super quiet and very powerful with Ecoboost, but uninspiring to drive and it looks like a bling mobile. Did you drive it?

Cheers!

We are actually planning to purchase another X5, we are waiting for CPO '11 X5 35is, i guess we use the extra comfort and power more than the third row seats plus the 35i is better in fuel economy than the MDX or our previous 4.8i but we are enjoying this MDX quite alot you just cant help it miss the X5 once you've driven one. I have never driven a lincoln before, we were very much interested with the MB GL but maintenance, price and size (Mom dosen't want anything bigger than an MDX). The thing is im always willing to go with BMWs because of their bulletproof warranty, free maintenance, and customer service (pretty good at my stealership). I have yet to go to an Acura service bay so i can't comment on it just yet.

Yes its my Cheap-Ghetto-Velcro-Mounted radar detector that worked flawlessly until i got to Oregon where a cop was shooting me with something but the thing kept quiet, luckly i wasn't going that fast due to their horrible (but still-better-than-LA) traffic.

Before this trip my longest drive was a 1400 mile drive from Virginia to Atlanta and back on an 05 BMW X3, funny thing is that was my first time driving in the freeway, ever. But its definetley a fun drive, i even dropped by the BMW factory in south carolina .

I might be wrong but I think the Acura Nav on the x doesn't cover Canada, just the border areas.

Haha...I made exactly same trip from Calgary to LA and back about a month ago. I also have factory Navi and brought my Garmin just as a back up (only used it once). My X came with DVD for Canada and had to switch to US maps once we got to Montana.

We put through 7000 km in 15 days going from Calgary, LV, Grand Canyon, San Diego, Anaheim, LA, SF/Napa, and back. I got as low as 8.3L/km. We hooked up Wii for the kids and cruised comfortably and with power to spare.

Yes, the MDX only has partial maps for Canada, unfortunately the Garmin i bought with also did not have Canada (i thought it did because my older one did).

Its a great drive, lots of spectacular views and open roads, just a tip though, bring a bug and tar remover and the xenons attract a crap load of bugs specially at night, i even hit a bird.
