High Milage MDX
Hi,
We are looking at trading our 06 TL for a 2011 MDX. There are 2 we have found, one is a base model with 158,000 KM ( 98,000 miles) and the other one has the tech package and is the dark red color that we like but it has 229,00 KM, (142,200 miles).
The one with the tech package is about $1500 (Can $) less than the base model. Would you consider buying a MDX with 229,000 or is it getting near the end of its life? The MDX would be a second car fo us and would only be driven about 10,000 KM a year.
Are there any watch outs for 2011 MDX’s other the the oil consumption issue ?
Thanks in advance,
RDG

here's the thing...
the only type of car that is at the end of it's life is a car that wasnt taken care of.
cars can last 1 million miles granted it was taken care of properly..
meaning; if anything was broken it was repaired or fixed in a timely manner.
with that being said; you'll need to take the two examples to a mechanic to have them look over the car to find any shoddy repairs or broken parts.
once you know the condition of the vehicles, then you can make a better informed decision.
without knowing what kind of condition the cars are in, you might pick the worst of the two.

Best thing to do is have it checked out by a mechanic. Check and see if timing belt has been replaced (every 105K MILES or sooner in colder climates). Check and makes sure there is no whistling sound when driving over 40MPH from the center of the car. That's a failing driveshaft bearing and the replacement from acura is $1800.
Leather may be torn up depending on how well the car was taken care of. The center armrests turn to crap regardless of how well you take care of it. You'll have to reupholster it.
Also check trunk area for wetness/dampness. Water leaks in rear hatch is common.
