Can't erase codes from 2004 MDX Homelink

I know I should be able to erase the codes that are in my 2004 MDX Homelink by pushing the outside 2 buttons at the same time and holding them for about 20 seconds. However, when I push the 2 outside buttons, the little orange light starts blinking slowly right away. After about 30 seconds, it stops blinking and turns off, but the codes are still stored. I made sure my car's battery was on but no ignition.
Has anyone else had this problem before?

Regards,
Dave

Try to turn on the engine. I know you do not need to - but just try. If not help - last resort - disconnect the battery - but you will lose your radio code and have to enter this again (if you have). We have 2004 MDX, and I program once when it was new without any issue. Take 2 days to program our 330i BMW.

Thanks for your suggestion. We ended up taking it to a service center and they were also not sure why it wasn't working well. The root cause is that one of the button contacts isn't that secure. We had to press really hard and eventually we were able to reset the codes.
