Bouncy Ride

I just purchased an 07 MDX (SPORT). Overall I love it so far. But the backend has a fairly bouncy ride over bumps. Not sure what to expect out of the Active Dampner System? I've had it in standard mode and comfort and does not seem to matter. Does anyone else feel like their MDX is a little bouncy? Or is this normal?

I've heard bouncy being used in so many different ways. Care to clarify a little?

Is it bouncy after you go over a speed bump slowly, or does it bounce for a bit after a bump at a faster speed?
I was surprised how much bounce mine has going over speed bumps. It reminds me of the dual rate Eibachs I had in my Camaro SS. Going slow over bumps it was pretty soft but at speed they felt pretty firm.

it's a bit bouncy for my taste as well in comfort mode, I leave mine in sport and enjoy the ride. On rough roads like pothole laden ones, I'll switch to comfort and it helps out quite a bit.

The backend bounces up and down as if its sitting on a water bed. It's not just big bumps like speed bumps but also just small to medium size (normal) road bumps. I really think something is wrong with the suspension of shock absorbers. I can't imagine a car of this quality having such a bouncy ride like this. Just wondering if anyone has experience the same thing?

I think you may be using the term "bouncy" to describe a suspension that is "firm".

Bouncy (IMO) is what you get from a pickup truck. You hit a bump and there are several undulations of the suspension from a single bump. The MDX sport package has a fairly firm suspension, you are going to feel the bumps but there shouldn't be multiple undulations for the same bump. It should be up, down, then back to it's natural resting position. If it is undulating more than this you should have the suspension checked out.

You also can't measure what the ride will be like based on quality or price. The ride difference between a $250K Ferrari will be rather different than that of a $250K Rolls Royce. They are both high quality expensive vehicles but were built for completely different reasons.

You can compare a RX350 from Lexus to a MDX and will most likely feel the suspension of the Lexus is much softer than that of the MDX, however if you end up having to make an emergency lane change you would have much better control of the vehicle if you were driving a MDX.

"however if you end up having to make an emergency lane change"

I was doing something stupid involving the radio yesterday and I had to go from 38 to 0 in a few feet. The MDX stopped avoiding the X5 with no blinker going into a driveway with a few feet to spare. I heard skidding from my car I think. But I was able to right side pass going about 5 mph. The car dropped 30mph in a few car lengths with no problem and allowed me to go around under full control. Every other car I have driven would have been a crash. A bit stiff riding sometimes on heavily repaired roads? FINE by ME...

Still under warranty I'm not familiar with the SPORT suspension and am just trying to get a feel for if this is normal or is there something wrong. I probably need to try and find another SPORT model and test drive it to see if it is the same.
