Battery or alternator

Battery or alternator
New member, maybe a newbie question.
Today I go and try to start the MDX and nothing. I jump it and it runs fine, I give it some gas and in idles low and cuts off on me.
I jump it again and run it about 2K (RPMS) for a minute and it happens again.
Many people say it is the battery but after jumping the MDX shouldn't the alternator keep the MDX on?
I do not know when the battery was changed so I will DIY that, no brainer but I do not want to keep driving it if it is just running on battery power. I would hate to be stranded with my 2 kids somewhere.
If it is the alternator, can someone please post a link to a DIY for it?
Any and all comments are welcomed.
Thanks for your time!

Update on "Battery or alternator"
I went to Costco and got a #3 Kirkland battery. Installed, started up perfect. The battery is at a constant 12.64 volts, MDX turned on, curning out about 14.54 volts.
Can someone test their MDX with the engine running and tell me what you guys get? If my readins is low then it could be a bad alternator.
Thanks!
