2012 MDX USB will read but won't play
I'm having problems getting music from a 1 GB USB flash drive to work with the car. The songs will display on the screen, but none of the songs will play. The drive is formated FAT32 and all files are stored in the base directory. There are no folders.
Any ideas?

I had some old flash drives and I had the same issue. I could not get the drive to work either after formating. I had to sample a few flashdrives before I found one the worked with my 11 MDX. I had no problems using a Silicon Power Touch 830 64GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive, from Amazon, $37. I just copy/paste my entire iTunes library on the drive and leave it plugged in 24/7 in the MDX (the MDX reads the folders all A$$ backwards).
I think certain drive still have some built-in security even if you do FAT or FAT32. The directory is usually a look-up table telling you where the data is stored on a drive. The Look-up table is likely in a format the MDX can read. If you format in FAT32, the security isn't used; but, the security bits are still there (probably all zeros, 32bits for data, X bits for security/encryption). A computer OS can read/interpret the extra 4-8-16 bits and ignore them. Since our MDX tech is about a smart as a box of rock without and OS, it just gets confused with the extra bits and does nothing because there isn't an OS to interpret the data.

Thank you for the advice. I bought a 32GB Sandisk with some sort of security software, formatted to FAT32 and it worked!
The folder structure is very strange. It shows every folder, including subfolders, at the root level and organizes them based on modified date.
I'm just happy it works now.
