Good tip on a case of DW-1. Will have to see if I can work it into the budget as I have a lot going on at the moment. Spent all morning researching tires and leaning towards the nitto nt421q over cooper discoverer htp from discounttiredirect.com.

nt421q
Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

discoverer htp
Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

Both offer rebates to drop price. Nittos are preferred

Ended up going with Cooper Discoverer HTPs. Had good ratings and getting $125 back in rebates.

Currently doing the A16 service on the MDX. Since, I've been traveling a lot, I ended up taking it to my local shop. For $144, can't complain and they are very meticulous with their work.

I love what they did with the 2G facelift, I think it looks really modern, even to this day. It is such a shame that the 2G was lacking a heated steering wheel and push button start. It would have been the perfect car for me. I am in the market for a 2G pre-facelift right now though even with some lacking features.

Quick shout from underneath from yesterday... Seriously considering some Flowmaster mid mufflers to give the X a deeper tone

If you do, please make sure to share! I think the 3.7 has the potential to sound amazing. I will definitely be doing exhaust mods on mine.

I agree! Always finding myself saying we made the right decision when we were between the MDX, Pilot, and JX35/QX60. Only thing I would ask for is the 19" Advanced wheels and I would be set!

Most likely pipe dreams as this is the wife's main vehicle :tomato: Only way this will happen is if something failed with the exhaust component and I can justify going aftermarket lol.

I really like the 19" advance wheels, my only gripe though is that 19" tires are extremely expensive in relation to other sizes like 18 and 20. 21's are so ridiculous in price that my cousin bought a whole new set of rims and 22" wheels for his new mercedes gl 550 vs buying just the rubber for the oem 21" wheels.

Well...if you accidentally grabbed a hammer and started smashing the j-pipe......pipe dreams - j-pipe....it was meant to be!

Out with the old...

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...03a4dff07a.jpg

In with the new!

Turns out the OEM battery positive terminal corroded so much that the terminal came loose from the battery. First time I've ever seen that. Also, had the passenger rear tire checked out after catching a screw earlier this week. Didn't puncture the tire

Skirmich 10-01-2016 02:04 PM

Niceeee! I wonder what that extra ground cable is for?

nats007 10-31-2016 10:28 AM

^ woohoo, missed the above post and have no idea lol.

Time for another update in a few weeks. I've been traveling for work like crazy, so after this 2 week trip, I'm taking some time off to work on the cars. MDX needs B1 service and Im thinking about getting the garnish kit...

My RSX needs some TLC as well. It's been in a half complete state with panels removed for months :tomato:

MDX still looks brand spanking new! Seeing a black MDX makes me somewhat regret getting my silver one. Just get rid of the Regal decal below the ACURA sign.

Love the black, but such a pain to keep clean! I was looking at Silver adv model because I really wanted to the 19" advanced wheels lol, but found this one for a great price and couldn't pass on it. I wish we had running boards, but go back and forth on actually getting them.

Trust me, the pics are deceiving... Not nearly as clean as it was when we got it, but really appreciate the kind words! The decal removal is on the to do list when I finally detail it.

I'm coming up to another routine maintenance on the X and decided to order some accessories to hopefully help with the poor reverse lighting. I'll post an update on how it turns out.

Deselen - LP-MB24P2 - Tow Hitch Bracket Mounting Kit

Lightfox 2Pcs 4Inch 18W Flood Cree LED Light Bar Offroad Pods Lights

I also got a wiring kit so I can control it with a switch

TrackDayRdr 04-03-2017 01:37 PM

A mod obviously done without aesthetics in mind.

How are you going to use a trailer with the light bar blocking the chain loops?

I'd remove it when I need to use the hitch to trailer something. I've used the hitch only twice since vehicle ownership for a total of 6 days over the past several years.

Lights came in and rigged it up really quick to the mount and tested to confirm LEDs work. I'll install over the weekend and report back. For <$50, I figure I give it a try lol. It is crazy bright

SimonGeezz 04-07-2017 08:56 PM

Indeed, the reverse camera does not really help at night...
Is that why you want these lights on the hitch ?!

nats007 04-18-2017 08:10 PM

LED reverse lights installed

So, I finally got a chance to complete my reverse LED lights installed and I'm very pleased with the results. This may not a mod for everyone, but if you don't haul often and prefer a great alternative to increase visibility during reverse at night, I highly recommend this.

As mentioned above, I ordered the bracket, LED lights, and wiring kit from Amazon. I ended up extending the wire kit a bit to accommodate reaching the rear of the X. Other then that, everything was pretty straightforward. Here are the pics!

Oil change update

MID indicated I was about 1200 miles past due for an A1 service and finally had time to complete it this evening. One thing I noticed was I drained just over 3 qts of oil. Is this normal? I didn't think of checking during how much oil was drained from the last oil change, but I didn't expect 2qts less than the 5 I put in.

Also, how much oil do you guys normally put in during the oil change? I bought 6 qts last time, but only used 5. Is 5 qts sufficient enough or do you guys put more?

Skirmich 04-18-2017 09:30 PM

It should drain over 4-4.5qts of oil some residue will remain if you do the change while cold.
3qts? never happened to me.

RDX10 04-18-2017 11:49 PM

I mean the 3.7 for 2010+ do have oil burning issues, but not THAT MUCH. I think something else is going on here. That seens like a super low amount to change.

This was my thought.... About 4 qts. I'm going to keep an eye on the oil level this time to see how it goes. Do you normally put in 5 qts? I think I'll check it tomorrow morning and see the oil level sits in the early morning.

I figured it would burn about 1 quart. When I saw only 3, I was a little concern. The SUV feels fine and no signs of leaks.

Perhaps you should just keep an eye on it every 500-1k miles and see if it is noticeably low. Burning 2 qt's is absurd. Were you the one who did the previous oil change? Is it possible less was added initially.

My MDX takes about 4.5-4.7q because I always have a small amount left in a Quart and a Full Quart available (I get the 6q Box).

Yes, I did the last oil change along with my RSX. Im having a hard time recalling how much oil I put in, but swore it was at least 5 quart bottle. I'll monitor it and report back.

Good to know! I spilled a little, but definitely not more than 0.2 quarts. I need to get a better funnel because the oil fill hole is not as accessible as my other vehicles lol.

Skirmich 04-19-2017 02:40 PM

Yeah I am used to hand fill my TL-S but the MDX lower engine bay makes it pretty hard to do so, It really needs a 7 inch funnel.

Biggest complaint was that it didn't fit quite right. So, instead of buying that, I got some Weather Tech floor liners. Nice X...mine is a 2010, black like yours, but with the saddle interior. As for the filters...next time, just buy a cabin air filter, and install it yourself. I bought the filter at my Acura dealer, but you can get them at most parts stores. Took about 5 minutes to install it, using instructions I found on YouTube.

get a thread chaser and clean your threads before installing! that was a huge recommendation i read everwhere. mine was easy to install, just drop the exhaust pipes

1200 miles past due and down about a quart should be right, any more than that and you may have oil burning issues. The 2010+ models are susceptible to this, esp with the thinner 0W-20 oil that is sometimes used. Were you using the oil jug from the oil change to measure your old oil? Just so you know, those can be very inaccurate as the bottles deform and don't read accurately when opened. Ran into the issue with the 5qt mobil 1 containers. It'd show I drained 3.5 quarts but when I measured it out it was close to 4.3. That's .7 quart that went missing due to the bottle deforming. I use a full 5 quarts in the MDX during changes, and as well fill up the oil filter with oil during the change.

Thank you for this information! Yes, I used the oil jug from the oil change to measure the old oil, so this update is reassuring!

Sad day... MDX was rear-ended today. A scrap yard pickup slammed into a Galant who then hit me at a dead stop. Car is functionally sound, but the bumper took a good hit. The Curt tow hitch I think helped prevent significant damage and one muffler was bent upwards.

No injuries to all parties thankfully. The pickup had a V8 motor in the bed that slammed into his cab on impact and shattered the rear glass all over him. It could have been a really bad situation, but dude was Ok. The Galant is totalled and the poor girl was shook. Florida is a no fault state, so Highway patrol wrote up the report and said have insurance duke it out lol.
