2010 Motor Oil Loss + Code
2010 Motor Oil Loss + Code
I bought a 2010 MDX CPO in July 26th 2013 w 51300 miles. The CPO is only for 12 months + we had a powertrain warranty (I think 100 k). We bought this from spitzer acura in PA.
My wife mentioned to me that a check motor oil code pops on real quick when making sharp turns then goes away. So I drove this evening a verified the code does indeed come on during sharp turns. I also checked the oil and there is NOTHING on the dip stick. Currently we are at 54,400 miles.
So that equates to 3100 miles (4 months) and a loss of appx 3-4 quarts.....maybe. Its also important to note the OIL LIGHT is NOT lit up.
1. Does anyone have similar problems
2. Do I have a valid claim for the dealership and corporate acura?
3. Do you think the will replace the vehicle after doing an oil consumption test?
4. what would you do?

yikes that's not good
have you refilled or checked the oil filter is tight?
I would start there and then definitely return to the dealer if nothing is turned up.
That thing is certified and they have every obligation to fix mechanical problems.
When I bought mine certified the radiator somehow cracked a few months after purchase, boom new radiator no questions asked.
Good luck.

^I agree with the above. If you check it immediately after driving, it will most likely appear low. Let the car sit for 30min or longer and check it. The ground doesn't have to perfectly level but don't park on obvious hill/incline/decline either.
Took it to the dealer for documentation. They claim it was only down 1.5 qts. So refill and now we're doing a consumption test. ... Every 1000 miles. No leaks. ...it was CPO and I didn't notice anything in the driveway.
IV been down this road with a 2004 TSX.54k miles ... burned a quart every 1000. Iv heard all the BS. This time I'll be prepared. Does my MDX have a PCV valve that could displace motor oil

I have had quite a bit of experience with various J37 motors and have seen their unique problems opposed to the other j-series displacements. One of the things I've noticed is that dispite having the exact same seals as other j35 and j32 engines, they have a higher failure rate. This could be due to increased vacuum at idle from the added compression or displacement or could also be contributed to by the much higher block/head temperatures they see during operation. Regardless of what actually causes it, I've seen many cases of this...my own car being one of them.
Ensure that the oil is being checked with engine OFF and that the dipstick is being fully seated beyond the o-ring that may give a false impression that it was seated when checking. These models have a common issue of faulty oil pressure switches and/or corrupt ECM software that causes the "low oil" message sign to appear on the drivers information center.

My girlfriend just bought a pre-owned 2011 MDX SH-AWD with 3.5 V6 with only 32000 miles on it. Beautiful vehicle, very well kept, seemed to be a great deal. So she's had it for about 5 weeks now and have gone 1205 miles so far. Yesterday morning I noticed the oil life message indicated oil was at 70% which seemed a little odd that viscosity has dropped so much so quickly. So I popped the hood, checked the dipstick and discovered...you guessed it, oil was 1 quart low. I then had my girlfriend start the truck as I stood behind it and saw puffs of white smoke from each of the exhaust then trailed off. So after much research discovered that this is a known issue and became educated as to what would happen if and when I contacted the dealer. Called the local service department and got the anticipated "it's acceptable for engine to use 1 quart every 1000 miles" explanation and was also told that the next step was to come in, have an oil change done...at her expense, then participate in an oil consumption test.
Now I'm no dummy when it comes to engines and know that loss of oil and smoke out of the exhaust means internal problems, apparently rings. I'm so disgusted with this from such an otherwise great vehicle/manufacturer. So I'm not quite sure what I want to do yet, but a friend suggested contacting the Better Business Bureau to see if there are complaints about this issue. So tomorrow morning I plan on doing just that but wanted to know if anyone else has gone this route.
Thanks in advance for any info
