2007 MDX squeak in dash

I've had this car for 3 years and have about 38000 miles on it now. For the last couple of months the dashboard has been squeaking, not just when I hit a bump but also when I drive through a slight dip that makes the body flex. This is not a rattle but just a squeak, like rubber rubbing on plastic. After looking on the internet for an answer I have realized that this is a common problem. I've checked the dash over very closely and nothing is loose. I decided the noise was resonating from the windshield. I checked the plastic cowl cover. There was dirt under the rubber lip that contacts the windshield. I took a damp paper towel wrapped around a putty knife and cleaned it out. The cowl cover doesn't fit very tight. It is held in place with some plastic clips that allow about 1/8 inch of movement. I moved the cover forward as much as possible and went for a drive. No more squeak. It's been 4 days now and still no squeak. I don't know which of the two things I did fixed it. If the squeak returns I will probably replace the plastic clips with screws. Knowing this has become a problem for many MDX owner I just thought I would pass on what worked for me.
