2004 MDX VSA Modulator question
Hello all. I recently purchased a 2004 MDX (134,XXX miles) and the VSA, ABS and triangle ! light have been on for a week. The VSA switch was also unresponsive. Read where it could be a battery issue, so I cleaned the terminals and tightened everything and the lights went off for about the 1st 1/4 mile I drove it then stayed on. I took it in to Acura to have 3 pending recalls done and have them diagnose the issue with the lights. I was sure they would come back with bad speed sensor or battery issue (had coupon for free light diagnosis). Nope. Said I needed to replace the VSA modulator at a cost of $2100. Yikes! Took it to my local Honda dealer a few days later and had them diagnose the lights (another free coupon) and they came back with the same answer and went up to $2200. Now, the weird thing is on the way home the lights all went off! They have stayed off for the last two days and the VSA switch is functioning. Is there any way the part could have failed as two dealerships said and then have the warning lights turn off? Nothing done to the vehicle that could explain it. Hope someone can shed some light.

When the VSA modulator goes bad, it can fail in 2 different ways. The first is failing mechanically - ( having bad internal seals, bad pump, etc ). The second way is a computer failure. The VSA modulator is also the computer for the ABS/VSA system. It is not that uncommon for the computer to be right on the edge of failure. We have seen all the lights you are talking about come on and off intermittently. If they end up coming on again, the VSA modulator very well could be the problem.

Thanks. Crossing my fingers that I don't see the lights reappear. The car had not been regularly driven for almost 6 months, so I am hoping that was some of the issue.
