Dealer Applied Protectant - Got it, I didn't buy it

My 2004 TL came with a small sticker on the glass that says:
"First Place Finish - Car Protection System" - or something like that.

The car I got was a trade from another dealer and was on the lot
(Desert Mist/Ebony). I didn't pay for this protectant and the
dealer didn't try and charge me, I'm not even sure what it is
really (a gimick is what it is...).

I have to assume the first dealer put that on there before trading for
the car. That isn't an Acura thing is it? I would never buy this.

I assume it's some type of synthetic paint sealant (the paint job on the car
is amazing BTW). It sure looks good. So my question is, when I go to wax the car
for the winter, do I have to be concerned about being compatible with
this? I prefer synthetics over carnubba, but that's just me.

Based on this, what would people recommend when I go to wax/polish -
does it matter at all?

Your probably right, chances are, its a synthetic, and a wise choice made by the dealer. When it does come winter time, your really going to need to start from scratch, wash, clay, polish, and seal....If you attempt to reseal without cleaning, chances are there will be a bonding problem. Be wise and start from scratch. Its no miracle product, probably no better than Klasse, Blackfire, Platinum, or maybe even Zaino, ist the marketing of such thats a rip off. They gave you no more than I could do, but for about twice the cost. I would have charged 179.00 to put an excellent synthetic on your Acura......

My roomate's truck came with that exact same paint protection with the BS line of lasting 5 years - it also came with a bag of products to "boost the protection, apply once a month!" It's a straight up sealant and not a very good one - if you get a good paint cleaner like Klasse AIO then your good...follow that up with a good sealant (two or three or four layers !! and your good to go -

My personal preference on your color would be Klasse AIO + Four Star Platinum UPP.

yah, mine came with a sticker "First Canadian Platinum Plus, etc, etc" To be honest, I don't remember if it was the dealer that put it on or the detailer. When the weather gets nice, obviously I'll take it to the detailer for a wash. BTW, this "First Canadian Platinum Plus, etc, etc", are you familiar with it? Is it synthetic? How long should I wait to wax and what to use? The car was picked up in May 06 - check out my other posts in "wash and wax".

when in doubt...wax/seal!

since it's a used vehicle and that sealant could have been put on any time in the last 2-3 years...i would just use a good paint cleaner like 4* UPC...then start from scratch with a good wax or sealant like Excel mentioned above.

i LOVE collinite 476S and 845 for winter protection of my winter ride...zaino products on my TL year round.
