In for a new set of tires, on my 2nd set of DSW but would like to try something new. These 2 tires are pretty new and have good reviews:

- Hankook Ventus S1 noble2

- Nitto Motivo

Did you mean your were on your second set of Conti DWS?


This is what I ride on and I'm very happy BUT you gave a choice of two tires you are looking at.
I will go for the Hankook due to it's tread pattern look which will look nicer on the car.


Both tires should be good.

nitto motivos are very good tires, i ran them for 15k before i had to go down to a smaller profile.

i now run bridgestone potenza re970 a/s and they are simply amazing. super stiff sidewalls, great traction in rain and dry conditions...i think i'll get these tires from here on out.

Yes, I'm on my 2nd set of Conti DWS tires now and due to some alignment and shock issue causing inner tire wear they need to be replaced they are at 27K. Sucks cause the they still look new with the DSW thread indicator still visible for D=Dry S=Snow W=Wet.

The DSW are good tires especially in wet, I drive 85 MPH when it pouring out at times and I fell glue to the road. Just want to try something different so I can eliminate the idea that I have bad luck with these tires wearing out on the inner thread. I'm going to get A-Spec suspension install soon, so I can start from fresh.

The Nitto Motivos are great, excellent grip and are good in the rain. I've had them for about 5 months with no problems.

Maybe he means on the Interstate, which might be more common than you think, even in the rain.

Having said that, I don't recommend it, and if you regularly drive on the Interstate in rain, a narrower tire will work much better, so choose a 225.

Just because others speed in the rain doesn't make it safe.


and yes, I have seen others speeding in the rain and wipe out due to hydroplaning.

Maybe I get a lot more rain than your region but, when it does people do drive a lot slower.
I've seen folks hydroplane across the interstate even driving at the limit.


Guess since im now a father, I think differently.


Just be safe out there and drive carefully.

I had a friend that passed away. He was speeding in the rain on the interstate (clearly his fault ) and hit a tree at 90 mph.

Did you have these on long enough to drive them in last winters heavy snow? I have been looking at them since I need a new set of tires to replace my Continental DWS. My TL is just a commuter it doesn't get pushed handling wise, looking for something good in rain and snow without having to go to a dedicated snow tire.

Yeah, I had driven them in snow a few times last winter. Well I never had the DWS, I can say I felt confident with them in a few inches of snow. Like all other all-season tires they definitely aren't a winter tire. But they were better then most other all-season tires Ive had in the past.

I've had the Conti DWS's too. What I liked best about them was the ride.

But now, there's only ONE tire. the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's.

The Top rated all season tire in Consumer Reports! To put it bluntly, their words were:
This top rated UHP all-season tire establishes a benchmark in this category.

In other words, the standard by which all other all season tires are judged.

The DWS's aren't even a recommended tire anymore and their snow traction has been downgraded to a solid black circle meaing POOR.

I saw that consumer report too. I wonder how long they drove on the tires. I was reading the other day that due to the usual mfr process tires need to be driven several hundred miles prior to deciding about traction. I don't have a good reference for that info, I've been doing a lot of reading lately. They don't cite their methods of testing for those tires do they? What about Cooper Zeon RS3-A. They were cited as a "best buy" for UHP all season. Anyone have experience with those? I agree with DMZs comment about the standard but the cost is too much for me to bear at this time, I think.

Tony, any snow/ice driving? If not, that changes your options dramatically.

I had the Coopers for about a month and wound up taking Cooper up on their 45 trial period, then dumped them for the Michelins. Good tires, except they annihilated my gas mileage the moment I installed them. Putting the Michelins on corrected that problem immediately. If you do a search on the internet, you'll find others who found themselves in the same predicament with the Coopers, so I'd stay away.

There are 2 things you just don't scrimp on when it comes to safety. Brakes and Tyiz!

No, CR does not release details of how they test. I've had an extensive email exchange with them and got nothing but crap from them. I would totally disregard CR tire reviews and instead rely on the consumer reviews on tirerack.

Tony - you liked the Contis enough to get them a second time, why not a third? The fact that they wore unevenly isn't a fault of the tire based on what you described.

I tried those for a while. Very average and an overly stiff sidewall, stiffer than tires that have much sharper turn-in and better feel. Mine also started cracking before they were 2 years old.

I agree with the tire rack reviews but make sure you read the ones that have put a good bit of mileage on them. Most tires are decently quiet when new but the noise level can really go up with mileage. My KDW-2 tires were noisy but acceptable when new and by 3,000 miles I could barely carry on a conversation with a passenger and there was no irregular wear. Traction will obviously change with mileage, usually for the better.

I'm on the Motivo...stock wheels and tire size...I like them, they seem to be wearing well, good wet and dry traction...haven't driven them in the snow yet.

We have a set of Continental ExtremeContact DW. They were great when i drove the TL a few times. Probably more grip/performance than my dad notices though. They seem to be working out well.
