Hmmm...have you had the click SINCE they replaced the rack? Honestly, there's rubber inside the tophat but it's not really a "wear" kinda part. So there's no real reason to replace them.

A click...hmmm...is there a chance they forgot to tighten something?

Honestly I am not sure....I started a new job which requires me to go over this dumbass speed bump before I enter the garage...I happened to have my radio off and I heard it....its not a loud click but def. a click....if I go over the speed bump really slow I cant hear it at all...but if I kinda go a little faster and have my suspension compress, then I can hear it....what else could it be besides an end link? Upper control arm wishbone looking thing? (sorry for the advanced language here)

60-70k miles thats a long run!!!......you can still use your old TOPHATS with that mileage....considering the old owner bought new top hats at the time...if anything just replace the bushings, everything else is just washers and collar....if you decide to get the new street advanced..

^^^he wants you to spend money!

I'm not sure, man...there are so many things that can cause a click etc...sometimes it's some simple...I had this horrible noise when turning right...ended up being the cotter pin being pushed too far over!

Dang...it's like that, huh...
Fine, I know when I'm not wanted.

Naw man...just seems like lucnex getting a new set of coils might be him putting the carriage before the horse in his troubleshooting. I wish I had the advance. Technically, I think the Advance IS the SS but at a competitive pricepoint for today's market (since there are SO many other cheaper brands for the TL now).

Maybe or maybe not....lol....

You are tottaly right,my thing is that if he is initiating he wants to change them,is because there is more than one issue, not riding the same..etc

But of coarse first thing I would do is troubleshoot...a click, sounds like it might be under the car that's bad...now a clunk!...definitely the coilovers...

Thank you! As busy as I've been these past couple of weeks , I'm finished using that as an excuse! Placed the orders and time to make it happen and finish this out! lol

you? I can't stop thinking about my car finished!!! lol ...finally got the XXR 530's in chronium black. 18 x 8.75 20mm offset, I was running spacers on my stock type 's for flush mount so with these I'll be running flush front and 2 mm poke in the rear so I opted in for a 225/40/18 stretch to stop the rubbing on my desired drop...Cannot wait for the final pic...

[I fought with myself for 3 months on whether to buy these wheels off their pricepoints...kinda like you get what you pay for...and just the thought of seeing them on a riced out TC made me cringe...however, I found solace in custom center caps, colored valve stems and a shiny set of anodized lugs]

Random side note: If you know anyone interested in some bent Type S's [which are the EASIEST bent rims I've ever friggen owned!] or my winter wheels which are discontinued PIAA Sportmesh 18 x 7.5 and feel free to make an offer. Just stripped them and plastic dipped them so they're ready for a fresh powdercoat and I have a 5th wheel spare! Selling them right off the car! lol

I honestly just want to have some dampening control with these coilovers...and I can feel them starting to go, which is why I am sort of selling myself to these...but the click needs to be fixed too....I will obviously try to troubleshoot it before I drop the dough on these....

If you buy from heeltoe you can get them installed with the coilovers for 185...otherwise hit up acuraoemparts.com or oemacuraparts.com

I'm going to be placing my order for a set of Advance tomorrow most likely. Trying to decide/figure out where I can get the best price (XLR8 vs. Heeltoe)

I'll probably buy new tophats and whatnot so I'm kind of leaning towards heeltoe since I can get it all together in one package and assemble it myself. I could use my old top hats but I'd rather not deal with a spring compressor, and my shocks+H&R Springs combo have under 20k miles on them so I will be able to resell them (and it will be harder to do so without the top hats attached).

Great thread guys. Thanks for ur input here and via PM EATSLEEPRACE.

No dampening settings sucks, that would be my first priority,it's like you paid for the ss but riding on basics......hope everything works out for you...

.................................

Hey quanaman ,buy everything seperate and assemble it yourself it will save you some $,plus there's a video from heeltoe on the first page showing how to do it..

I still think you guys are crazy spending another 200 bucks for tophats!
The spring compressor isn't a big deal, to me at least.

Anyway, instead of reinventing the wheel, lucnex, have you thought about sending them back to Tein to be revalved and have the dampening knobs put back on?

^ yea except this is my only car so no time to wait 3 weeks for TEIN to revalve them and send them back....may actually send them back after I get some new ones installed...and then sell them in the black market

Extra $200?!!!!!!......more like $120-125....for brand new everything its well worth it than trying to use old worn TOPHATS......

Example about month ago my friend bought a set of tokico and tein springs, decided to use his old top hats with about 90k on them......

We could not get it off the stock suspension, the collar was literally stuck on the shaft of the shock!....if you can't get the collar off we couldn't get the bumpstop off....all 4 shocks were the same way,do he had no choice but to buy new top hats....

In the end the 125 bucks is well worth it!

Fair enough, I agree with both your points...

I guess I'm lucky almost none of bolts/nuts/suspension stuff is seized up since no salt or snow.

^ yea fml I have had to literally cut off almost every bolt when I have messed around with suspension parts....my bolt to install my rear camber arms was so seized it took the Honda dealer an hour to break it off....

I had to literally destroy my stock camber arm bushings in order to install my ingalls camber kit.....the weather has a lot to do over the years if the car is driven in snow and winter a lot......

I had to heat up every bolt until it turned orange!..and still some of them wouldn't come out...I have to say it was the only problem I had.....all other bolts around the car were fine..

Been looking through this thread trying to learn about these coilovers and whatnot.
I noticed some of you guys had to purchase top hats as well.
I have no idea what top hats are and I'm still trying to learn about coilovers.
can someone school me on why you guys needed top hats and does everyone
need to get them for these coilovers as well?

Top Hats are almost exactly as they sound....they are basically a "Hat" for the suspension...its the way that the coilover attaches to your frame basically.

Some aftermarket coilover come with tophats (I think BC Racing. HT-SPEC F&F, and XLR8's new ISC N1 Coilover)....most others (TEIN) do not come with Top Hats...

You can reuse the top hats off your existing suspension but will need a spring compressor in order to remove them...many just opt to buy new ones.

If you buy from HeelToe (Vendor on this site), he offers them installed so you do not need to mess with the factory ones....I would suggest this for you if you do not have much automotive knowledge...

Okay, now that the coils are installed, I am happy with them but I just wanted to say thanks for providing that list

And also, I didn't use every part...we used what Tein had in their install diagram and I was left with some spare washers and such.

Uh oh u sure?......in each shock assembly you are using one tampered washer then the big black one over it and the other washer that goes on top before the nut?

Yeah dude. We assembled it exactly as Tein's little manual said. Maybe I ordered too many parts?

They're riding fine though, I trust my brother, he did most of the work, he's had a lot of coil installs done before by working at AutoTrix.

Tein gives you a little booklet with the recommended settings, you just need to set it to what you want it at.

heres some crap I just found out about yesterday. a buddy of mine recently bought a set of teins for his 04 sti. after 3k miles, the right rear started spewing oil out of it while it was parked. tein is going to replace it, but its going to take over 30 days to get his new part. he sold his sti struts, so basically his is carless till he gets a replacement. 30 fucking days??? seriously, thats too damn long.

When I was selling tein products thier standard replacement time was under a week, and they were really good about keeping contact with me so I could inform customer with updates. doesnt sound like thats the case anymore

Damn I'm still hanging on to my old suspension, they're still sitting there, completely assembled. I more than likely won't sell them.

I know that the Tsunami ordeal put a backorder on most of their stuff 2 years ago...maybe it's part of the backlash. Selling OEM parts is a bit of a bonehead move though too...I always keep mine.

Still have my stock suspension,I think is not a very smart move to sell them....it gets you a few extra bucks but it backfired at him....

Mine dampening is set 11front 10 in the back from stiff

I set mine to what you have EATSLEEPRACE and it felt just a little too bouncy. I ended up goin with 10 rear and 6 front from full stiff. Feels more planted and not bouncy on dips and bumps

Here's a pic of mine installed
