Fair price for wheel repair?

Hello everyone! As you all know winter is right around the corner, so I will be throwing my OEM enkies back on my 06 TL with some winter tires. However before I do I would like to get them refinished. My 5 star stockies have BAD curb rash (from previous owner) and the clear coat on them is starting to peel off and chip away. I want them to remain the original factory color. I called an alloy wheel repair specialist and they quoted me $500. $500?!? Is that a joke?! I could get brand new type-s replicas for $500! So does anyone know what a fair price for getting my stockies looking like new again??? I am in the Kansas City area if that helps.

$500 is a bit on the high side, but if its really good work, its actually a fair price. It takes many hours of work to get them refinished, and just because some replica wheels are $500 is not a good comparison. Even if he quoted you like $300, I could say that I can buy some used replica wheels for $300 on craigslist. But honestly, I'd just get new wheels if I were you, yours arent really worth fixing up unless you really like that style.

Price seems about right, I got quoted 400-500 for my 18x8.5 aspecs to get refinished and ended up doing it myself for around 100 and I was very happy with the results. All 4 wheels where atleast this bad.

OP you need to do some comparison shopping or try to repair them yourself. Fair price is rather subjective as it varies on their workmanship and what you think the wheels are worth. Since they aren't that valuable and you would rather buy replicas for that price, I would just attempt the repair myself.

why are you refinishing winter wheels anyway, just rock them as is and don't have to worry about fucking them up. save you money for a good set of spring/summer wheels

$125 a wheel is usually a "fair" price. When Costco damaged two of my wheels a few years back, that is what they ended up giving me. I checked three places for repair/refinish costs and they were all $125...including Jay Wolfe Acura.

Seems like a fair price considering they have to fix all the damage and repaint the set.

I paid $200 just to have a cracked rim welded and fix a bend in another one.

When it's done, it'll be like a new set. You won't be able to find a new set for $500.

$445 for Non TPMS TL Wheels

$460 for TPMS TL Wheels

eBay sellers have 100% rating.

Sell old banged up wheels.

My gosh... if you think yours are bad.... haha I dont even want to show mine Previous owner abused the hell out of the wheels from bad parallel parking jobs. I am honestly thinking of ordering new wheels instead of getting them repaired or even plasti-dipped LOL

Thank you everyone for your input. I already have a set of aftermarket 18's for my summer wheel. After careful consideration I will not be refinishing my OEM wheels. After all, they are winter wheels and no point in investing more money on wheels that are already functional. However I will be plasti dipping them again like I did last year. I originally had them dipped anthracite grey with a light gloss finish and they actually turned out pretty good for a cheap DIY peel-able paint. I have some pics somewhere wish I could find them. Anyway this year I am dipping them copper. I think the contrast on my NBP will look killer and I haven't seen that many black TL's with copper wheels. I want to do something different. I'm so tired of seeing black TL's with black wheels. Wayyyyy to common. But $30 for DIY painting your wheels is a deal. I will post pics here in a month or so after I dip these 17's and get them back on my 06 TL. and If anyone is curious as to what the plasti dip copper looks like here is a pic.

Oh heck yea. That color is sweet. I'd want that powdercoated on some aftermarket wheels

500 is pretty average when go to fixers charge about 200 a wheel if the entire wheel needs to be touched up.

Those wheels are destroyed, $500 is cheap. Rep's are a much better play.
