Anyone have the new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires?
Looking for some reviews of these tires from TL owners. Every review online is VERY good in all weather including snow and the tires look awesome to. My dad has them on his car and likes them so I may pull the trigger on these. I need to get through all the seasons here around Chicago since my Type S still has its original factory installed HPT Bridgestone Potenza RE030's.
Would love to see some pics of them installed as well.
Thanks

still a new tire I doubt many people here on azine have the A/S 3's yet. Michelin being the top tire company brand in the world I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
After I read your post I had to look up bridgestone re030 because I haven't heard of them, I thought the HPT option was re760. Then I found out RE030 only came in 1 size(235/45/17) as an OEM tire setup for a couple cars. Good info!

Not on a TL, but I actually have them on one of my vehicles (RX8). I have been very pleased with the handling so far. I haven't gotten into much snow with them yet though. Fantastic dry and wet grip with good steering response. I am coming off of a set of Bridgestone RE760 summer tires and the dry grip level is darn close. The AS3 is definitely quieter and more comfortable with just a slight dip in performance.

I literally just installed them on my TL-S. From the moment I drove out of the shop it felt like a different vehicle. Not sure if my old contiprocontacts sucked that much, or if these are really that good. Very quiet, grippy, and smooth. I would definitely recommend these.
Also, it has rained since and the car absolutely feels alot more stable and re-assuring then it ever did before.

^^^ awesome that's what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the input.
RedSand, you don't happen to have any pics of them on your car do you? I know they are just tires, but I'm weird like that I think a high quality name brand tire completes a car. When I see a nice car with like Tiger Paw tires or some shit it just ruins it haha

^with the car modding trend lately, people slap on cheap tires to stretch on wide rims. therefore I've seen bmw's with tires like achilles and nankang to stretch on wide rims lol. not my style, but I guess as long as they are happy with it.

I'm hoping someone posts a review about these tires as well.
A good friend of mine works for Acura in the parts department and knows I'm looking for tires. He said there is a guy at his shop that has them on a Focus ST and is happy about them so far but that's not on a TL so... I'm definitely interested in these tires as I need new ones very soon. I blew a tire out and bought 2 Yokohama YK580's but I want 4 Michelin's and they weren't in stock at the time.

I have had these tires since August and I can never figure out how to upload pictures in the actual thread, but I have pictures in my garage section on the forum if that helps.
I just posted in another thread about these tires as well and bottom line is they have impressed me.

^^^ looks great thanks for taking the pics. I ended up ordering the tires today and Discount said they should be in tomorrow. I will then have my original Bridgestone Potenza RE030 high performance summer tires for sale.

I had the new Michelins installed this morning and so far they are great. Very smooth and quiet.
Yeah the Bridgestones are for sale I just gotta make an add and take some pictures. They look brand new, infact the tires have never even once had tire shine on them lol
So what is shipnex? Never heard of it. I will probably try local first on Craigslist, then if no luck there I have no problem shipping them.

JTS, idk if you've already purchased the tires but CostCo is having a sale on these tires on Black Friday. $930 out the door is what the sales rep told me. Plus you get the $70 rebate from Michelin.
*NM just saw that you had them installed. hehe*

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 is a great wet and dry tire, regardless if its warm (65f) or cold (below freezing), and quiet and comfortable enough; it is not going to get you through a winter where there is snow!
The family put 1,000 miles on 215/55-16 OEM size Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires, on a 2012 Ford Focus with Sport Pkg, 6AT, before I drove it in the snow. [In my opinion this Focus has a better traction control/stability control system than my 06 TSX 6MT (newer A-Spec, Progress RSB), and a lot less understeer. I think the Focus is a great car, and quick, and cheap, too.] Coming off the highway in the Focus, as it was starting to snow, I knew it was going to be dramatic, although the asphalt was still mostly visible. I drove around for an hour, to see if I'd want another set of these tires for my TSX, in the spring.
Eventually, I drove in 1" to 2" of both fresh powder and hard-packed snow. Braking distances were unpleasantly long; antilock brakes, btw, would not let me steer and brake - I could hardly do either! Starting on level road, at a light or stop sign, it took forever for the front end to hook-up, and I believe you'd find yourself a sitting duck at an intersection, when it mattered - you wouldn't be able to do anything about it, except wait, with your foot down. Cornering on city streets required slowing to a crawl; I missed a few turns at anything faster, during my late night test, with understeer sending the car straight ahead.
I found a couple of hills (not too steep, but a real-world type of test), with 2" of fresh powder, or with hard-packed snow, to try uphill starts. The Focus would eventually get going, but it was an incredible waste of time, each time, with constant traction control intervention.
I went home, and swapped the Focus for an 03 Mazda Protégé with brand new Continental DWS tires, 195/50-16, and generally travelled over the same hills and roads that I'd just driven with the Focus. The difference was like night and day, and there were no issues with the DWS, although I thought they were "good", but not "great". The next day, I put the snow tires on the Focus (Toyo Observe GSi-5, 205/65-15) and the Protégé (General Arctic Altimax, 195/55-15, 1 yr old), but other than merely taking the Focus around the block, I took the Protégé through the neighbourhood: snow tires do make a difference, everywhere, in the snow.
I drive the TSX were I might see snow in April, or Oct, and would rather not be a hundred miles from home, riding on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires in snow. I'm really, really looking forward to finding a replacement for the two sets of Continental DWS tires I've had on the Acura; Continental has a newer tire I'll check out in the spring.

I recently had the A/S 3s installed and so far so good. Drove in some light snow and it drove fine. The biggest difference I noticed is that the braking distance is shorter. No complaints so far.

Yeah the tires were surprisingly poor in the snow so far. Oh well I'm still happy with them in all other conditions and they look good too.
Berat,
$930 is costcos sale price? Holy cow! I paid like $730 installed at discount tire and got a $30 visa gift card mailed to me ontop of that. That price can't be right as I'm pretty sure costco has very competitive prices.

Any more snow handling updates with this tire? Need to replace my Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires this weekend big time and torn between trying these or going with the Continental Extreme DWS.

Decided to stick with Michelin and picked up a set of the A/S 3's today at Costco ($70 instant rebate this month). Expecting some snow tomorrow & brutal temps next week in NE Ohio so I will report back with some results once I get a chance to drive it in the snow for a bit.

Michelin Canada, in response to an on-line survey I filled out at their website, suggested that I take my car with the A/S 3 tires back to the dealer who sold me the tires to have the air pressure checked, and otherwise make sure that everything was ok. Heck, I never would have thought that air pressure was the problem; I thought it was the snow!

Drove 30 minutes in the freezing slush & snow & 10 degree temps a little bit ago and the A/S 3's were fine. Gripped better than the old A/S Plus tires and I really don't see how the DWS tires would be a whole lot better although I haven't driven on those before. Not a snow tire and obviously brand new tread, but so far I'm happy with the purchase driving in the worst conditions they will probably see.

It's always a compromise. Even in Cleveland where I live I figure we get maybe 10-15 days of heavy snow every year. Roads are usually cleared soon after and the rest of the year is fine. Am I willing to sacrifice 50 weeks of 'better' handling just to get the best I can for 2, especially when I'm still getting ok handling as long as I'm not pushing it? That's what swayed me away from DWS and towards A/S3. If I lived out in the country with snow on the roads for longer periods I'm sure I'd feel differently.

I'm making a trip down to Buffalo tomorrow with the family to do some shopping and figure I'd buy some new tires since it's much cheaper down there.
Currently on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus on my 8.5 A-Specs. Debating whether I should go with the Pilot Sport 3's or Continental DWS. I've heard that the Continental DWS, while great in snow for an all-season tire.. tend to wear fast and after about 15-20k on them no longer have the "s" rating which means they're not good in snow anymore.
Also, you guys think a mild stretch of 225/40 on my 8.5 A-Specs will be ok? I currently have the OE 245/40 size but I have rubbing problems with them since I'm lowered.

Last October I pulled the trigger and wrapped my 8.5 ASPECs with the P/S 3's. Hands down the best tire investment I've ever made and I'll do it again when I need another set. They're very quiet and the grip is quite impressive. As far as performance in the snow, I gotta say that they didn't let me down. Couple weeks ago when had that crazy snow storm that shut down Atlanta, I was one of the few that actually made it home that night. Thanks to the P/S 3's, I was able to take snow covered back roads and hills like a champ. I can't speak for others but I can say that these have exceeded my expectations of what an all season performance tire is capable of. I believe that if I had gone with a different tire then I would've been one of the thousands that got stranded in their car all night.

I am going to be replacing my Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my TL-S and was looking at replacing them with the Pilot Sport AS/3 as it is essentially the replacement tire to mine. Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is liking it (I don't care about winter performance because I have to run Winters here in Ontario).

Less noise & 'softer' ride over rough roads than the A/S Plus, but handling just as good. Tire wear seems ok so far at 10k miles. Snow handling was ok if not pushed too far but definitely not a snow tire. Can't compare to anything else on this car as I've only had Michelin's. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I've had the A/S 3's on my TL-S for about 3000 miles now, and boy has it been getting better and better since breaking in. They are quiet at any speed, and handle very well.
The first 500-1000 miles I had debris clanking around in the wheel well when the tire was breaking in, but now it's gone.
These tires are as good, if not better than a performance summer tire in dry conditions. No doubt about it.
Wet conditions like rain, this tire amazes me. I'm not afraid to put my foot down to overtake someone in pouring rain on the highway, nor am I afraid to take a turn at a higher speed.
However, any snow conditions >1.5 inch, this tire ceases to amaze me. I find myself turning VSA off so that I can control the throttle input without getting power cut to the wheels. It is a little challenging to get going, but once at 25mph, the tires do an okay job in snow. Stopping power is nice in snow & rain as well.
In conclusion, this tire is the best for dry+wet surfaces. Snow is decent, but not ideal.
Continental DWS offers pretty good competition as it handles far better in snow, than the Pilot Sport.

I've had these for about a year (~10k miles?). They're good, quiet, and generally perform well under most circumstances. Since I live in Chicago, these circumstances are very wide. But the A/S Plus performed better in my opinion - I'd rather have those if they were still available.
