Which struts for best ride quality? OEM?

Acura 2001 CLS with 155K on it. Stock shocks aren't blown out by any means but medium single hit bumps don't feel very good. smooth roads the stock (original) shocks feel great but chatter and decent size hits and they feel a bit clunky. I can't imagine the original oil inside of them is any good anymore.

I am more than capable at throwing this car through some backroad turns hard enough to make your stomache drop but honestly with a car this big and this old all it does it destroy the stock rubber suspension bushings, so I typically drive this car nicely and I value a nice solid compliant street ride.

I'm considering just getting some new OEM struts for about $90 each. I think they have some kind of progressive valving stock from Acura.

Anyone have a better recommendation? If I want better handling I figure I'll just throw on bigger sway bars.

B&G, tokico blues.

Koni yellow, tokico illumina have dampening options.

How are the Tokicos? I remember reading they weren't that high of quality and fail. And that the valving wasn't very sophisticated. No direct experience with em tho

Heard good things about Tokico HP (Blues) as well. I was planning on using those when replacing my originals and I am slightly lowered. Bilstein also makes shocks for us and they are a popular brand.

The tokico blue struts for the 2nd Gen TL will fit the 03 CL correct?
I have Eibach springs on stock struts and I am at 161K. I have found some comptech springs and tokico struts for a good price. I am sure my stock struts are about shot and I need to get new struts or just go to coils. What would you guys recommend?

Why replace your springs? I've heard that some comptech springs (the early ones) will sag or break with rust.

Yes they will but the TOKICO HP shocks won't be available for months. TOKICO finally reassigned the distribution in the US so it will take months to replenish the inventory.

If you want a good daily driver coilover setup I would recommend the TEIN Street Basis.

depends what you're after. If you just want some new struts the blues will do fine, will be a little stiffer so i hear and have no dampening adjustment. You could sell the comptech springs and recoup a little $.

I'll be getting some koni yellows down the road. lifetime warranty, small height adjustments and full dampening.

I wasn't really interested in the springs, mostly the struts. A extra set of springs wouldn't hurt though. I have decided I am just going to get the TEIN SB coils. The wheels gap difference with the springs is getting annoying and Id rather be a little lower.

What did you end up going with? Anything cheaper than Tokico Blues? Website you purchased from?

Bought a set of Koni Yellows from redline360.com I like how they dropped the car just a little for just a little than lower stock stance. They feel good but are a little harsh on small hard bumps. On high speed back roads they maintain their composure much better than stock. Ride is definitely firmer and more bouncy tho. Big improvement in handling, but a bit of a compromise in the quality of ride (if you like a luxury ride)

I have Tokico HP Blue on my 03 CL-S 6sp manual for 114k miles with no problems at all and its paired up with Comptech springs and no signs of rust or rotting. They have been in the car since I purchased it back in 4/2003 with only 253 miles on the clock.

I also got Koni Yellows. I had a trusted shop install them, but my ride height is higher than stock... I replaced my OEMs at 105,000 miles, and I can say the Konis are smoother over small bumps but definitely a more lively and bouncy ride. I wouldn't recommend these for a comfortable ride.

Sounds like you can't beat OEM .. not sure I'd risk going with Tokico Blues if you want a 100% OEM quality/compliant ride.

if your suspension is making noises, chances are it is end links and bushings, time to replace them
