Recommendation Request: All-Season Tires Good for Winter Driving
I loved the GoodYear TripleTred Assurance tire on my '03 TL. Probably the best tread pattern for Michigan winters out there (in an AS). Alas, when I got my '09 TL, those tires were not made in a compatible size. Thankfully, the Michelin Primacy MXM4s were a decent enough tire. The OEM Eagle RS-As on my new TL #3, a CPO 2012 SH-AWD Advance with 245/40R19s, are LOUD. And winter performance is not supposed to be very good.
After spending some time on TireRack.com, I've pretty much narrowed it down to three:
Before I drop nearly a grand on a set of new shoes, I'd like to hear from folks with actual driving experience on these options how they perform, or if I've missed any viable contenders. My priorities are Quiet, Comfort, WinteryMix traction. Don't really care about ECOwhatever (low rolling resistance), or treadlife (although even tread wear with regular rotation is important).
Thanks in Advance.

- Continental ExtremeContact DWS06
- Pirelli Cinturato P7 AS Plus
- BF GOODRICH G-FORCE COMP-2 A/S

Take those BFG's off your list. They are garbage. Get the DSW06 if you want traction.

For road noise and smooth ride, I think I'm going with the Pirellis. I will see how they do this winter. If they underperform, I'll get Winter tires to wear during snow season.

You live in Michigan, from what I hear they get a little snow. The ONLY "all-season" that has a lot of snow capability is the DWS 06 (I have them on the rear right now to replace a "nailed" Michelin set).

I had purchased two sets of DWS, original. Best tires I have owned. Great dry, wet or snow traction. Couldn't believe how well they did all three. I will buy them again when these crap tires the dealer put on the car before I bought it wear out. I may sell them before that.

No snow miles on the DWS 06 yet here in Omaha. I like the 06 version. My current tread wear indicates that I'll be lucky to get 25,000 miles on them. I was hoping for better, but in terms of performance, I am very happy with the DWS 06. Will see how they perform when the snow arrives.

It is touted to be better than the initial DWS version. One of the drawbacks with the DWS is tread life. The 06 was said to have improved tread life. I really think I will be lucky to get 25K out of the 06.

Had two sets of original DWS and both got around 32K. Now on my third set but have the DWS06. Very good all around tire. No snow yet but will report back. I had the Pirelli on my list also but my friend/tire guy has the 06 on his BMW and gave it a slight edge so I took his advice. He thought the 06 would be better in the snow and we do get some here on LI.

Just replaced my 18" OEM Michelins at 26,600 with the Conti DWS06.. Even though the Michelin's had a decent amount of tread left I could no longer take how bad they are in the wet weather. And now that my middle son is going to be using the car I didn't want to take any chances.
I know it's not really fair comparing old tires to new ones, but I could immediately feel the difference in ride and wet weather performance. I think I made the right decision.

The Pirelli is going to be a quieter tire than the DWS but it's performance will be way behind the DWS.
DWS is king in snow, will outhandle the P7 and will probably last longer. I've had the DWS for 2 Sets on my TL and got nearly 49K out of them.

I have DWS on my summer wheels and blizzaks on the stockies. DWS do fine in the snow. I didn't put on my winters until January last year and went through a couple decent snowstorms before with the DWS. Blizzaks are great and i always forget how nice the car drives and accelerates with 17's vs 20's.

Just a suggestion to anyone considering the P7's. There is a P7 All Season PLUS and a P7 All Season. Don't even consider the regular P7, the P7 All Season PLUS is a better rated tire.

I had the Pirelli P7 All Season PLUS on a previous car and they were great. I considered putting them on the OEM 18's a couple of weeks ago but decided to go with the DWS because the 20" DWS on the summer wheels have been good.
May actually been putting the summer wheels and tires up for sale soon.. Not sure

I installed the P7 Plus a year ago and they were great in the Minnesota winter, compared to the OEM, which isn't saying much. I liked them primarily for the low noise. They do like being around 35PSI, though, for the best ride/handling.
After 25K miles, I'll see how they do with the second winter.
