i have 20 on my 02 tl type s and they do rub when i hit a bump hard or if i have too many people in the back seat. Other than taht it is a smooth rid. is there anything i can do to stop it from rubbing i do not want to get rid of the rims because they look nice on the car.the size is 225/35r20

Need: wheel dimensions. 20"x ___". Offset: ___. By the looks of things, your offset is not high enough, so they "stick out" compared to the factory rims. You could try to roll the fenders + cut the plastic tabs but I doubt that will solve your problems with rubbing.

That's why it's important to do your homework before you drop you hard earned cash on rims. Again -- if you read the first post, it's very hard to find a 20" setup for our cars that work without rubbing issues. It's been done (to varying degrees of success) but not many manufacturers will do it for our very small niche market. Most people go 19", tops.

235/40/18 will fit on a 18x7.5" rim, +45 offset. You will have to worry about occasional rubbing if you're dropped and have a lot of weight in the back. Rolling fenders +/- cutting tabs may minimize this possibility.

It all depends on your suspension geometry. You want to buy H&R springs ... OEM shocks or aftermarket? For the most part, however ... you're most likely going to have to cut the plastic tabs first. You might be able to get away without having to roll the fenders but don't quote me on that. Unfortunately, measurements for rims is not an exact science (even though they use metric measurements!) Plus, you're going 225 width tires, so you've given yourself a little more room for error (VS 235 width tires).

Has anyone tried 225/50/17's on their type S rims?
I'm thinking about putting a set of these on the rear.

I'm lowered on Tein H-tech springs. Any idea if these are too wide?

OEM Type-S rims are 6.5" wide. 225/50/17 should be mounted on 6-8" rims. You should be OK. (Your speedo will be slower by 1.5% but that's within acceptable limits)

the size seems to be the closest to stock of most tire sizes.

hopefully someone can answer this question as acurately as possible, as I'm contemplating purchasing some new rims ASAP for the summer months

19x8.5 ... forget it. Your only option is to run the 18x8 +45offset. If you are lowered, you will NEED to roll fenders/cut tabs for this rim to fit. You would most likely have to run 225/40/18 for it to minimize rubbing.

Sorry -- but I wouldn't advise this setup. Either a thinner rim and/or a higher offset.

Will Motegi FF7's fit properly on my car? I know the offset is the bare minimal, but will I have any rubbing issues riding on stock height/springs and stock tires?

It will fit. I run 19" x 8.5" with 225/35/19's with a +45 offset. Definatly a must on any lowered car that you will have to roll your fenders in the rear and cut the tabs. The roll and cut should only run about $100 if you go to a decent body shop. Make sure they heat the paint while they do it or it will crack. Hope that helps. BTW Boku and I have run 19x8.5's so it isn't impossible. have fun!

17X7, 5x114.5 and +45 offset. from a 2006 Civic SI... will these stockers fit? 215/45VR-17 would be on them. I'd be putting them on a 2000 TLP.

Rims should work (5x114.3 bolt pattern ... I don't think a 5x114.5 bolt pattern exists). However, the tires are a little thin (aspect profile is too small).

If you had the 16" rims (205/60/16), you need something closer to 215/50/17 or 225/45/17. 215/45/17 ... forget it ( > 4% difference in circumference to stock). It might mess up the ABS system ... just buy the rims if you want them.

There you go. Sometimes my advice isn't 100% correct but it would be closer to 99.9%. Boku, you and REV-01 all push the limit as to what the 2nd gen TL can fit.

It'll fit (just barely)... but if you lower too much ... it'll rub. TIres: go with 225/40/18 to minimize rubbing potential.

I'f I ran some some 19x8.5s on a 225/35/ZR19 ON stock suspension, could I make these fit without rolling the fenders? I wouldnt mind rolling them because the rims are sick but arent made in 8" wide rim. I would have no problem with minor cutts to the tabs or whatever, But I'm pretty sure they would fit with them rolled withought rubbing. Whats the verdict? Has anyone done this? Thanks guys, bought to graduate from TTU and get a sick job so its time to shine!

Hi derrick. I see in your sig that you have 235/40 18 on your wheels. What is the offset on your wheels? I'm trying to figure out if that same tire size is going to rub on a 18" x 7.5" with a +45 offset. My car will be lowered on H&R sports -1.75F/-1.5R

will the third gen tl rims fit our second gen? according to the specs on the first post, they won't fit but wanted to see if anyone has tried it yet. if anyone has, please let me know the results i.e. if they rub or stick out too much, etc. the dealer told me the specs for the third gen rims are 17x8 45 offset. sorry if this topic has been beat to death ahead of time but i couldn't find anything when i searched.

40 is to low Stock is +55 people have issues with +42 and +45.

the 3rd gen fits but the offset is to low and to most doesnt look right due to the amount they stick out

Uhhh ... we have OEM 17x6.5" rims with +55 offset. You're gonna use 8.5" rims with +55 offsets? Those rims will stick out 2" (51mm) more. No way. Wouldn't try it.
