I did that once. Long ago and not in a TL.
I do the same thing as you, if it's running and I get out, I'll open the window. Just in case.

Did it once with my old Maxima. Now if I get out of any car with the engine running I roll the windows down a bit. Just habit.

Same with me. I like the peace of mind that some of you are telling that it isn't possible. But with the winter months ahead it would be great to know i could leave my car running and not worry about leaving my window half the way down.

My driver's door lock actuator went bad without the faintest clue which had the car thinking it was always locked....of course I did not know this at the time.
One morning on my way out the door, start the car, get out to smoke a cig as always (never smoke in car, yuck) and as I shut the door I hear the bastard doors lock....FUUUUU.
Luckily my wife was still home so I let myself in with remote/key 2.

Found a very good thread. Makes a few good points.

Now need to learn where to tap into TL system
This has sticky potential!

I was at Chic Fil A having breakfast. Before I hit the road I popped my trunk to take my multivitamins. Closed the trunk and realized that my pants were lighter than usual. I had popped the trunk and dropped the keys inside -.-
Luckily I had the rear window cracked. Pulled some MacGuyver sh*t and removed my windshield wiper blade and pulled the door lock upwards.

In high school, I locked myself out of my truck while running once. I left the keys right on the seat. Think I was running 10 miles that day.

I did once a long while back. I remote started my car and went to sit in the driver's seat about ready to pull out of the garage, but I realized that I forgot my cell phone. So as I got out of my car my keys slipped out of my pocket and onto the seat. Lucky I was only at home with my spare key/remote handy.

Clever solution. I bet passers-by might have been somewhat suspicious, watching some guy fishing inside a cracked car window with a wiper blade.

See my post above? I did something similar on my TL during my viper alarm install. I have 2 reed switches that both need to be contacted with magnets which opens the trunk and disables the trunk sensor (where you can hide a key or fob). I'm not going to give any detail on where I mounted them obviously but I can tell you what parts I used and how to wire it.
The trunk sounds like a good place to hide and secure the third key. Where did you tap in?

The Acura RL uses a smart key system, in a event where you may had forgotten your keys in the truck or if they were to slip out of your pocket onto your seat and what not. The car will not lock and instead make a beeping tone to tell you that you had forgotten your keys in the car. If you forget or drop your keys in the trunk, when you close it. It will also make a beeping sound and pop the trunk open by itself.

Just remember that when you leave your car running a thief can easily steal your car key's and leave your car there, coming back later and taking it. If you park in the street's you'll lose a lot of sleep...

This happened to me once, put my dogs in the car with the windows up and raining...had the ac and music blasting...one of them leaned on the door lock button.
Spent 30 minutes with a hanger trying to open it...then finally called AAA (thanks to my fiancee finally convincing me to swallow my pride). 5 minutes later...it was open!

I have done this a couple of times:
1. Locked my keys in my old Honda Prelude, luckily I was on a construction site and one of the guys I worked with knew how to jimmy the lock.
2. Locked myself out of the house because we had one of those knob locks that when activated only allows you to open the door from the inside, the scary thing was that I had a 6 month old sleeping upstairs so I panicked and smashed one of the basement windows to get back in...needless to say we no longer have the knob style lock!
I always roll down the window if I am closing the car door with the keys inside!
