Wound up surprising myself and going with this beauty about two months ago. Totally different animal than the TL. Mercedes has been in the luxury car business for much longer than Honda/Acura and it shows in the details. Moreso there's a noticeable difference between the ML and my RDX (I'm still in the Acura family). I miss the TL though. Nothing but good things to say about it aside from the cracked dash.

^^^Dang an 8 year old Benz? I think you're more brave than I am. There is a co worker who is driving around in a early 2000s M-class as well...said they had to replace the electronics for something like $1000 recently. Stories like that truly make me be wary of the Benz cars until I can really really comfortably afford it....(ie likely retirement years....)

I have to tell you that I am very on edge about the reliability of this. I was as careful as I could be. I purchased from the dealership that it was originally sold from. The Carfax showed routine maintenance and it was in like new condition. I'm hoping the fact that it was taken care of contributes to its' longevity. I've always liked these SUV's so I'm willing to take the gamble. I also did the research and have come across many that have gone to 200k miles without issue. Keeping my fingers crossed!

The previous generation ML's that your friend has were plagued with problems. I'd recommend anybody to steer away from those (although the Mercedes forum is full of people who own and love them).

Personally, I find the multimedia interface a huge PITA. It's not intuitive whatsoever. It is a good looking car though; like a baby S-Class.

Poser. Yuppie. Soccer mom.

No offense, just the first three nouns to come into my head.

(Plus it's just a whole lot less good looking than the previous C300)

I on the other hand think the current C300 as better looking and a little spacer than the previous MY. Overall I'm pretty happy with it and glad I didn't go for the latest TLX. I still love my '06 TL which I drive from time to time when my daughter is not driving it.

I was excited to see this thread as I've been thinking of replacing my '06 TL, but it hasn't helped me settle on a possible replacement. I can't say I really care for any of the recent Acuras. Sadly my favorite loaner from the dealership is actually the RDX.

I figured I would just give my TL to my daughter, but my wife says it's too fast for her so I guess I need to search for 2 cars.

I can't say I completely disagree. We went on the highway about a month ago for the 1st time. She did great for quite awhile and then after making her way through a stretch of construction with a LOT of traffic and finally hitting a 4-lane section with hardly any traffic I had a feeling we were doing well above the speed limit. I ask "umm how fast are you going?". She answers "...oh almost 90...I guess I should slow down".

I gave my '06 TL to my daughter at 17; she's 18 now and it fits her comfortably. As long as he or she is responsible, I don't see it being too fast for them.

traded in my 07 type s w/ 78k for an 08 535xi w/ 34k.

was having some bad luck w/ the TL - busted rear windshield, dented rear quarter panel and driver side pillars

a few months later, my stock rims/tires were stolen

decided i needed to get rid of the bad vibes out my life - trade in was very reasonable and the price difference w/ a 3yr extended warranty drive-train and bumper to bumper under 10k was a no brainer.

i know these 535s are known for tranny issues - i may swap it out again as warranty is near it's end

2010 Bmw 335i

Lost my TL in a terrible accident (wasnt at fault). I really wanted another one cus i loved the car but then i was like "jeeze man, i just almost died, lemme live a little" so i walked into a bmw dealership and the rest is history.

The only thing i miss is the great mpg i would get with the TL but asides from that, this is one hell of a car.

Jb4'd it so im almost at 400 bhp. More than enough power for now, summers about to be here so i cant wait to get into some aesthetic mods.

In love with this car.

Nice E90!!!

Colleague was selling his E90 335i couple years back after it had the HPFP problem I think and got it fixed at dealer and got into a newer 3-series but was bit too out of my budget.

400hp is awesome...essentially M3-ballpark power!! I think these motors take very well to some great tunes

N54/55s are super strong and certainly underrated. If you're out of warranty GK...tune that thing. It's so cheap and easy I can't imagine not.

Literally one of the reasons to buy them. IMO.

I'm still in a certified warranty and my wife drives that car occasionally and I'll need new tires about every 3 months if I tune it up to 400...seriously, she can't drive it without squawking the tires.

And I'm old and can't handle a faster car...

I agree. My daughter is 16 and she's very responsible...although clearly she likes to drive fast lol. I've got the itch for something new, but I still love my TL and hate to give it up. Would be great to have it as a 3rd car. Plus I know it's in great shape, I can fix a few things on it and I have a brother and a friend that both can fix anything on it. That said, my wife is an Italian from NY/NJ and I have to pick my battles carefully.

The early ('07-08) N54s were underrated. The N55, not so much.

Compared to our world here, they are underrated. Not a lot of love for those 55s though.

A 135 has been in my radar for a long time. Very fun cars to drive especially if modded. I've been waiting on a rich friend wanting to dump hers off to a friend for cheap.

Anyway, point being I wouldn't buy one with a 55. It's best to go back more then a few years.

Yeah i very specifically chose the 2010 e90 because i knew i would be doing some major tuning. 2010 is the last year for the n54 twin turbo engine.. they switch to the n55 starting at 2011, it's a single scroll turbo or something like that, doesnt respond to tuning as well as an n54.

I have a list of exactly what i need to get to 425hp and I'll stop there. Everything on the list is so cheap and easy.. even stock these 335i's are fast as hell and dive into corners at ridiculous speeds i wouldn't have dared to attempt in the TL.

The TL will always have a place in my heart though but right now, this new toy is just too much fun.

I'll own other cars later on but im sold, no matter what i will always have a bmw in garage. Just such a perfect blend of luxury & sport.
