TRUNK lip or Trunk Spoiler?
#82
I was going thru this dilemma too. Couldn't decide between the decklid or lip spoiler. I was leaning towards the lip spoiler mainly because of this thread but I got such an amazing deal on a decklid. I tell you guys, the car looks insanely sexy with the decklid. I'm glad I didn't get the lip. I have absolutely no regret with this.
Decklid Spoiler all the way! =)

Just get one from "thespoilerstore" on eBay. He has them for $100 painted and at good quality. Many members can vouch... So please whoever is in the market for buying a spoiler, you don't have to waste over $200 buying a OEM lip when you can get the same quality, paint, and everything in between for half or even less for the same material.
He has them rather cheap for around 60 bucks plus around 30 for shipping.. but to PR he's asking for 80 on shipping.. :/
But it's still better than the 300 for the OEM..

The real question is, do you want to make it look the way everybody else wants it to look, or do you want it to look the way YOU want it to look?
Everybody is going to tell you they like it the way they have their own car set up. Weak minded questions like this are almost as bad as the "Which color should I choose?" questions.

defenitly the best answer, just do what makes you happy. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that's why I DIDN'T WANT TO BE LIKE EVERYONE ESLE AND GET THE LIP!..... no offense to those who have the lip... I'd rather be the Apple Jacks in the land of Cherrio's.....

My lip had holes drilled in the trunk, I had to take it off to get it repainted. I'm sure it would do without, but it was helpful in lining it up when I put it back on with some double stick and the two or three bolts that held it to the trunk

well it doesn't really sound like your hating.... if I were leasing a TL, I would try to get the cheapest, but good looking mods... seeing how the spoiler is more expensive and would need holes drilled into the trunk may explain why you went the lip route, and also believing that selling a lip would be easier than selling a spoiler would also be a good reason,... I would say "spoiler and only spoiler" if it was a FACT that the TL looks bad with a spoiler, but it's not a fact... it's an opinion.... an opinion that alot of acuraziner's have... which is ok.... I can't convince you the spoiler looks good anymore then you can convince me that it doesn't..... don't hate.... appreciate..... when I got the TL, it came with a lip... which I thought (my own opinion) wasn't really noticable.... and I love the sports look... so I got the spoiler..... I still like the lip.... but I like the spoiler more....
to bad that the lease is up on your TL.....

lol I just added the wind deflector a couple months ago. I added it so I could use my sunroof more often on the freeway and stuff, not necessarily cause I like the look although I don't think it looks too bad.

Did you want the lip when you originally got the TL? Did you put the Lip on the TL because you were too afraid of what Acuraziner's might think if you had a Spoiler? Are you a follower?....

If you want an amazing deal on a trunk lip spoiler, and the best quality paint and fitment, goto the spoiler store. I posted the link below. Also check out my pics!

Ugh, I still can't decide which I want for my 06 TL. I am leaning towards the wing just because the Type S gets the lip one and I want to make mine different.

im thinking about getting the Type S spoiler - where can this be found? i know wholesalepartsguy sells them but anywhere else? also how is the OEM type S spoiler installed on the car? is it 3M adhesive or is it drilled? I know the spoilerstore decklid spoiler is installed using 3M tape

OEM spoiler: Very Expensive, plus got some drilling to do
I would get a spoiler from EBAY, paint it at home and slap it on with some 3M tape !!!

The TL-S lip spoiler is the same as the one at "the spoiler store" plus they will paint it professionally using the best quality paint, then you stick it on with the pre applied 3m tape, that's it.
Any other spoiler would be shitty!

the TL-S spoiler is not the same as the decklid spoiler at the spoilerstore.

the TL-S spoiler may be rare but it def looks better and stands out from the rest of decklid spoiler. im able to get these for 300 bux.

I too like the TL as-is. I contemplated the lip after I bought the car but never got around to it then.
So many cars have spoilers or wings that the specialized affect is dulled now- my gosh you can buy a Kia or a Chevy Cobalt with a spoiler now. If spoilers helped mileage, I would think Acura would add them across the board to improve EPA figures much like we have 5wt oil in our cars. Perhaps a spoiler might improve performance but I have my doubts.
Now I think cars without spoilers stick out more because they lack the add ons and get by on their natural looks. The Masserati, Austin Martin DB9, and Corvette are examples of high performance cars with no stick-on spoilers and perform well.
If I really wanted my TL to stick out from the rest, then I would get a roof lip since you don't see many cars with those and they blend pretty nice to the roofline and probably would help aerodynamics.
I would also consider the lip if there really was an aerodynamic improvement given to the car- something noticeable at semi-sane driving speeds or possibly a slight improvement in MPG. The wing looks like extra weight and bulk to me. I hated the wing spoiler on my Maxima SE because it was a pain drying the car after washing it and it started coming off in the car's later years. The wing looked like crap once the 3M tape eventually came loose and the paint started looking different from the rest of the car.
Can anyone comment on the function improvement a lip or spoiler actually gives?

I pre-ordered the second batch of roof spoilers...
They're making them look perfect without no gaps on the sides.
