TL Tow Ring Almost Took Out My House
I am posting this to warn TL owners of the front tow ring. I was the third owner of my TL, and at some point a previous owner had installed a front tow bumper. The installed tow ring was not in any way an official one which I did not know until the AAA truck operator told me about it. He proceeded to use the hook to move the car onto the bed and it snapped sending the car rolling backwards. Luckily, he was able to run into the car and stop it with the E-Brake. The car had two flat tires which are what stopped it from rolling to fast (Damn Curbs). Anyways, not sure if it snapped as the ring was homemade and weak, or if overall the front tow ring spot is only to be used in manufacturing and not for later use. Also, if anyone knows of a good tow ring to buy it would be appreciated. For looks only, not for towing...

your tow truck driver is not competent and didn't secure the car to the truck like he should have by pulling from the right spot. The tow hook is designed to help pull the TL out in situations when the car is stuck. Look at the Manual...

In tems of actually towing it (onto a flat bed or lifted) then he car should be properly secured via the wheels and subframe. Beware that some tow companies are incompetent and may hook on to your CV shaft along wih the wheels. This can result in a bent CV shaft just as it would with a bent tow hook.
