Swaybar links for Acura TL (2004)

Hi folks,

I recently got my TL serviced at a honda dealership and they informed me about a broken swaybar link (front right). He advised me to get both front swaybar links replaced and gave me an estimate of $270 + tax. (parts + labor).

Please can you advise if it's really important to replace swaybar link or I can keep it as is.

Thanks!

As a general rule, auto manufacturers do not add completely useless parts.

The swaybar AKA anti-roll bar is responsible for increasing the suspension roll stiffness, meaning keeping your front wheels connected together. If you ever got in a car with removed or very tired swaybar you can feel it dip either left or right in turns.
It greatly impedes cornering ability if your sway bar is not connected anymore.

The parts are $17.50 each, it's 1 hour of labor MAX to replace both. You can buy them here:

Acura Parts @ AcuraOEMparts.com - Genuine Acura OEM Parts from Delray Acura

Parts 5/6 depending on the side.

You can do this in your drive way if you wanted with an allen wrench and a cresent wrench. It's very simple and easy and it'd be dumb not to do it. Not doing this will cause the front of the car to flex a lot, and in extreme cases may cause your windshield to crack as it prevents the frame from twisting.

While I agree it makes the handling worse, I would have to say that it doesn't make it dangerously worse since some cars in the past didnt even have sway bars. Just don't expect to handle like it's supposed to, but if you drive slow and gentle, you can afford to put the repair off until a later time

As for the windshield cracking, I've heard that's only for a lack of front strut bar, not front sway bar.
