Pondering Purchase: 2007 TL-S w/76k for $14,000
I'm [fairly] new here on this board but not new to Acura. I've had a '07 MDX and a '12 TL SH-AWD. Currently looking at the following for sale near me:
2007 Acura TL Type-S Auto. 76,100 miles. Clean Carfax. Good mechanical condition. Typical for a 2007 car with the following:
- Minor (<1 in) tear on the back of the front passenger seat
- Some curb rash on the wheels and side skirt
- A ding on the rear bumper
- Slight dent above driver door (hardly noticeable)
The pads are good. Tires are new. Interior looks crisp. Everything is functional.
Asking price is $14,000 firm.
Any thoughts? This will be my first 4th Gen TL. I no longer have the MDX or TL and need something to drive for the next 5 years and 60k miles without a car payment.
Also, if I wanted an aftermarket extended warranty (for my own piece of mind!) are there any recommendations on here from which companies to get one through? Links would be really helpful.
Looking forward to hopefully getting this car and spending a lot of time on here soon!

I think you meant 3rd gen....anyway, it will be difficult to go from a nice 2012 back to a 3rd gen that has significantly less tech and features. However though the Type S still looks great to this day and a lot of people feel it looks better than the 4G. Without a car payment I think it would be a pretty good purchase. All the minor issues you noted could be fixed if you really wanted to make the car near perfect.
I would say that is a fair price for an accident free and clean car that doesn't have crazy high mileage.

Agreed - seems like a fair, and possibly even a good price. Everything outside of the bumper ding could likely be fixed for less than $1k, and if you're focused on owning a car, hopefully a bumper ding doesn't bother you too much.
Depending on your need for tech, several users (including me!) have installed a tablet computer in the spot where the navigation used to be. This allows a full digital music collection, pandora streaming, google maps (which includes real-time traffic), and several other things that are almost as advanced as most new cars. Good luck!

Fair? That sounds incredibly cheap for a type s.
My first thought would be asking why they're trying to get rid of it so easily(such a low price).
I'm skeptical.
Extended warranties for the most part are scams. Rarely do you ever get anything better than breaking even.

Want a funny back story?
The hilarious part is that I have a 2013 BMW 535 xDrive with 7,200 miles ($68k sticker) sitting in the driveway right now.... that my soon (in the next two weeks) to be ex-wife is going to get in the divorce.... hence the search for the TL-S.
To be honest, I bought the BMW just because I have always wanted one... (traded the '12 TL SH-AWD)... just because I heard they were the shit and the best cars on the road. Just because apparently the BMW is the best... right? WORST DECISION EVER!
.... and I HATE IT. HATE IT. It's weird. The entry/exit clearance sucks. The knobs turn the wrong way. It hesitates off the line. It doesn't shift into park every time when I press the button (hate those buttons; I need to feel the shift). The drivers seat isn't comfortable. The keyless entry doesn't work 100% of the time when I try to close the trunk.
I could name 30+ damned reasons I hate that friggen car sitting outside right now.
I'm getting taken to the cleaners on it hardcore, and I will be broke afterwards for a long time -- but I can't wait to get an Acura outside. They're comfortable. They're awesome. They just work.
Honest truth.

Alright. Just drove.
It handled well. Everything worked. Has inspection sticker from three weeks ago. The guy's Mom came and saw me. She was selling it for her son. All papers from when he bought it at 46k in 2011 from an Acura dealer. They were the second owner.
He's broke and she's selling it for him. We went on a drive for ~30 mins and talked -- absolutely believed her and every word she said.
There are a bunch of small scratches all over it but all superficial. The rear bumper was dinged but not horrible -- but probably $1,000 to fix everything and make it like new. The dent mentioned I couldn't even see after looking hard -- non existent.
I figure $14k. Plus another $1k to get a body recondition and make it perfect. Tires are brand new. Rims have lots of curb scuffs. Not sure what I am gonna do there.
Wrote her a check on the spot. Nice ride for sure. Gonna need some advice on a bunch of things I want to do to it -- but all around it was a solid ride.

I need some help though. Please. Here is the Carfax:
http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory...0368#undefined
It failed emissions on 7/31/14. It had a new sticker when I saw it an hour or two ago. Thoughts on this history?

Emissions are usually either exhaust work or O2 sensor IIRC.
I don't see it as a BIG DEAL for now, but I'd have a mechanic look at it and see what the issue is.
I found a 2007 Type-S Black on Biege 105k miles for 9k I may buy it but I don't need another Sedan :/

You got a good deal-I would have pulled the trigger, especially on a ASM!

there are a lot of things that can cause it to fail. like one person said, if the codes werent ready, it would fail, at least in CA. All it takes is driving for a day or two and then bring it back and it'll pass.

You know what... that makes sense! She said her son hadn't driven it for a couple of months since he moved, and that it had a new battery. Sure enough I popped the hood and the battery was brand new.

What are you waitting for? Pull the trigger already. The price is cheaper than market.

If the carfax is good and you check the KBB I don't see why you shouldn't get it. Coming from a 4th Gen to 3rd Gen is going to be a slight change as far as driving, ride quality, features, and room but it's shouldn't be that bad.

Congrats!! Like you said before, the first things I would do are recondition the car. See if a professional can get all the scratches out, then have a wheel guy fix all the curb rash. At the same time get all fluids up to date....and enjoy the car!!!

Never gone to a wheel guy before, although there are a couple I found in Boston on Google.
What is a price range I should expect to take the stock '07 S-Type rims that have a moderate amount of curb rash and have all four restored to like new?
I'm thinking $100 per wheel, no?

^^^yes, that is about right...
that's if there is no bends, and just some rash. bends will raise the price.
I went through this with my stock base wheels(one was bent). I just ended up getting new type S wheels for a few hundred more...
