Please explain headlight/fog system on a 2006 TL
Guys, I did search, but I guess this info is so basic, I couldn't find it spelled out anywhere, I could only find info on how to add fog lights to a 2006 front end.
Basically, I know they are projector headlights and it says the car has foglights, so I guess the fogs must be incorporated into the main headlight housing.
Please explain location of each & how, the high beams, low beams & fog light work. Also, are there DRLs? Where how on them also.
Thanks

Red is low/high beam
Blue is either DRL or fogs depending on your location (Canada = DRL, US = fogs)
low/high beams uses a D2S HID bulb. What switches between low and high is a small solenoid that moves a shield out of the way when you want high and low.
All this information is available on those forums and all over the internet. Not sure what search terms couldn't make you find it.

^^^what the bunny said, however OP if you decide to add a fog to lower bumper then you need a independent switches for the lower fog and there is a DIY somewhere in the DIY section.

Thanks guys, I searched fog lights and that just brought up fog lights mods, I searched headlight systems and didn't see anything but bulb numbers . I've been very busy today doing a deal to a buy a 2006 TL 6-speed manual long distance in Houston, having it shipped to me, and what it costs to get a clutch job. Got a quote from a good shop of $1040 for basic clutch job, which I thought was pretty reasonable.
I'm use to the 2 gen board and this place is a little different.
I guess since there are a lot of posts on fog light mods & addition, that the OEM system described could use some help. I'm sure there is a mod to change it, but with the OEM setup, do the fogs go out with high beams?
Thanks!

Makes a huge difference when driving down a pitch black street with ditches and trenches off the sides of the road.

Also, on the 04-06 when you turn on your high-beams the fogs turn off. There's a thread in the old 3G Garage sticky that allows you to turn on or off your fogs whenever with some simple wiring, and it still allows you to use the stock switch.
I had 1875lu 9012 bulbs in my fogs and was using them as DRL. One night my Sister drove it home 15 miles with only the fogs on, and she said they were better than her 08 Tahoe's lights.

Also keep in mind that in some states i believe it is illegal to have the fog lights and high beams on at the same time, hence the reason they turn off when the high beams are initiated on cars that have fogs. I could be wrong though, but worth a check...

In many places, it's illegal to have more than 4 forward-facing bulbs (over a certain intensity) on at the same time.
So on cars with fog lights from the factory and separate low-and high beam bulbs, the fogs will automatically switch off when you turn the high beams on (and the lows stay on). If the fogs were to stay on, you would have 6 forward facing bulbs (2 low beams, 2 high beams, and 2 fog lights) on which is typically not allowed.
Does that make sense?

OP once you do "independent fog light mod" then you no longer have control over the fog light being turn off once the high beam is on.
