Phew! 105k mile service cost

Well, I just crossed 104K yesterday. Still don't have a MID message, but I know it's coming soon. I had pretty much made up my mind to do this myself and have been studying the SM and Majofo's DIY. I decided to call my local Honda dealer and get a quote for this service. What a surprise!! $700 parts and labor:
Timing belt, belt tensioner, water pump, valve adjustment.
With the valve adjustment included, I'm now probably going to let them do it.
Anyhow, moral of the story: call around to your local Honda dealers and get a quote.

Yeah, I about fell out of my chair...I tried to gain my composure and not sound surprised when I confirmed that with him. They have a pretty good rep around here. They've done all of my TSB work (no Acura dealer in the state) with no complaints. I'm really leaning toward having them do it...Gotta sleep on it for the next 1000 miles

Just got the B4 105k service prompt on my 04 TL.
Went to the dealership and they quoted me $3253 for it.
- $235 B Service (oil change, etc.)
- $936 timing belt
- $537 serpentine belt and water pump
- $326 tensioner
- $166 coolant flush
- $289 spark plugs
- $764 valves
Went to a fountain tire, and they quoted me $1400 for all of it.
Stay far far away from dealerships.

That dealership should be on the sex offender registry.
And I wouldn't let "Fountain Tire" do the job for 1400, when you can find a Honda dealer to do it for less. I'd rather have someone that has experience with this particular engine do the work, all else being equal.

The dealership quote was a ripoff - Who quotes the tensioner and water pump separately like that? I would also be extremely weary of a Tire shop or any one opening up my valve cover to fiddle around.

I have done a fair amount of stuff to my car. Every modification I have done to the engine, interior, suspension I did myself except the under drive pulley cause it needed a monster impact gun to remove the bolt.
And most recently my timing belt, tensioner, waterpump. Two weeks ago.
Could I have done it? Probably, but my buddy who works on cars for a living did my car in 2 hrs at a slow pace lol. Which could have taken me easily 4-6 hrs it being my first timing belt. Plus IMHO it's better to have done it before so you know what to look for. Maybe something is worn more than it should be and should be addressed before closing everything up. And you would likely never know anything is wrong if u are not familiar with what to look for. So for me I was more than happy paying my buddy 200 to do it, plus parts.
Now if I had experience with timing belts i may have been inclined to have done it myself. But I was not about to use my only car as my first test subject.
256 for the timing kit seems like a wicked deal. It was 420 or so for all the parts here.
Seems like the best way is to buy the parts and then find someone to do the work. Someone who is familiar with honda/acura would likely charge less cause they can work faster on it.

Whew! I've only got 72,600 on my 08, so I've got a ways to go. But, I'm already thinking about the 105k service! DIY seems a little intimidating for me, but I may work up the confidence within 32,400 miles. My main concern at the moment is all you guys talking about transmissions failing! 😣
