Wallet is not the issue. My problem is finding the mods for the build i want. I don't want to start with a supercharger. I have the cash for it, but where to begin and what parts or brands is what i am looking for. I already ordered intake and suspension kit. After that will be a full exhaust but what should I be looking into after those moves

How? The car has been out for more than a decade. Did you read the performance section? That's the best place to start. Also, you need to set some sort of goal(s). What are you trying to achieve e.g. fully built NA, 300-500 HP boosted, just style with some minor power mods, etc.

its all dependent on what you want and your goals!

if you dont have a goal in mind, then we cannot suggest things, as there are millions of parts that we could suggest that might or might not fit your ideals, life, goals, etc.

the best practice is to sit down and write down what you can improve on your car...
like for example; maybe you want to improve acceleration, braking, and handling!? you can achieve this by either lightening the car up a bit or getting better tires to improve traction.

it all starts with you and your goals for the car!

InB4: He's wrong, pay $400 for the rv6 j-pipe or w/e. or do research or f**k else.

Okay go to an exhaust shop, cut out the mid muffler, also have them remove the 3rd catalytic converter and have them "create" a test pipe. This pretty much replicates the Performance J-pipe for a fraction of the cost. Buy a CAI, Unorthodox Pulley.

Replace the front lower control arms but keep your old ones with you so you can change out all the bushings whenever you want. Do not let the garage people to throw it away.

Change the bushings on the front upper control arms. Buy springs for your rear shocks.
Change your stock Rear Sway Bar to a Progressive Rear Sway bar.
Change the 3rd and 4th pressure switches on the transmission and get 4qts of Redline D4 Transmission fluid also get a transmission cooler.

Get a custom armrest made, take your interior to a upholstery guy and get it maintained.

Should be alright man.

Do you have the A-spec body kit on it?

Well I have a 2008 base TL with an AT transmission. I am also planning some power mods, mixed in with aesthetic. Although I have to be practical with the cost/benefit though.

So far I have done (mostly in order):
-1X3 ATF drain/refill with Honda DW-1
-Akata wheel spacers, 15mm front and 20mm rear on stock 2008 wheels
-AEM V2 CAI
-Seafoam in the gas tank, crankcase, and manifold, followed by oil change (RP 5W-20 and K&N Gold filter)
-Reset ECU
-Lucenta LED upgrade for foglights
-K&N cabin air filter

Okay so actually no power mods yet, mostly just maintenance and aesthetic. As for future mods, I am planning:
-RV6 or XLR8 J Pipe with 3rd cat delete (first and foremost)
-All 3 pressure switches for the '08 AT (already purchased, probably will wait until my second or third 1X3).
-P2R TB spacer with thermal gaskets, and IM thermal gasket (XLR8 P2R kit). Will require cutting of AEM for fitment.
-High flow PC's (RV6)
-Catback (not as likely to happen in my budget tbh)
-Lightweight pulley (not sure if I have the balls yet)
-Aftermarket Tein springs that won't ruin my stock shocks (maybe ~1 in. drop would be nice). As with the catback, 1000 dollar coil-overs is pushing it.

That's pretty much everything I can think of at the moment. Remember, the law of diminishing returns is in effect here. Its a 9 year old car, so don't spend the car's weight in gold to upgrade it (car could be totaled tomorrow). Good luck and do your research!

few comments specific to you, but may also be beneficial to OP:
- tb spacer is worthless, just save your money towards something else. instead get the IM spacer (MDX milled), much better benefit for your car.
- p2r IM gasket: there have been some cases where it has melted. up to you if you want to run that risk. i would not. try looking for the discontinued outlaw IM thermal gasket if you really want one
- catback: try the stage mods first and see if that gets you the sound you want, it's pretty cheap and members say good things about it (doesn't replace a catback sound but gets you better sound than stock)
- don't go springs, almost everyone goes to coilovers after getting springs (including me, i had springs for 1 week and hated them). your shocks will go quicker. plus you can get great, high quality tein coilovers for less than 600. get the street advance, which allows you to dial in the stiffness. only the latest and greatest cost around 1k, the street advance is a great deal at less than 600.

Well just to give you a heads up, the fastest you'll see in an all motor full bolt on AND 420lb gutted automatic TL (mine) on stock wheels and suspension will probably be 14.0 unless your elevation at the track is better than mine was at Capitol Raceway in Maryland. The run was done in 84 degree weather so it might break 13's with lighter wheels and cooler temps

Have you considered selling your base TL for an S? Seems like a logical place to start if you want a fast TL. Especially with the 6MT, feels like a whole different animal compared to a base TL IMO. Sure they're hard to find, but not impossible, especially if wallet isn't a problem.

Well, my goal is to add horsepower. I would like to be at 400-500hp. Recently cut out resonator and mid mufller to add some sound, i have the cold air intake, just need to install and I'm waiting on the lowering kit. It'll lower it 2" front and 1.75" rear. Been looking for a new intake manifold, no luck besides stock. Right now just been working one small things like changing spark plugs to performance, cooler and other stuff

lol hope you got deep pockets for 400-500 hp. i went boost and it wasnt cheap. look at hi speed build thread. 10k easy

Let me know if you are interested in an intake.Custom build one that tucks behind the battery box and has the IAT sensor into the intake for cooler reading

After reading countless threads on 5AT vs. 6MT generally, I wouldn't put that much money into a 5AT, performance-wise. Way too limited and spending more money on compensating for that limitation. This is coming from an '07 Type-S 5AT owner. I stopped at the RV6 HFCs and J-Pipe. Only mod left for me is the Nexus 7 dash.

The only simple and safe way to make a 3G TL have 400-500WHP is by selling it and buying something with 400-500WHP.

3rd Gen TL Base AT's put down ~200WHP from the factory. If you want to double the power, it will not be reliable or simple. If you want it to work, it's cheaper to buy a fast car rather than trying to make a slow car fast.

Yes sell and get a 6mt TLS. You will probably spend around 5k in bolt ons just to come close to a 6mt S.
Also if your looking for a 400-500hp vehicle I think this is the wrong car to do that reliably.
The TL is a nice luxury sporty quick car, but its no beast
get a SRT,STI,EVO,335i,

OP definitely stick with a V2 Jpipe that will delete the third cat. For maximum power gains you should also look into High Flow Pre Cats and a catback exhaust.

You want 400hp+ and money is no object - why on earth did you buy an automatic TL? Go get a GTR and be done with it. Or, if you realize that your wallet isn't as deep as you make it sound, pick up a C5 Corvette and throw a supercharger on it.

I really wasn't trying to be a d!ck I just don't see an auto TL being an even remotely decent base car for those power goals, unless the OP just likes the challenge, which I would respect. 400whp is a lot to make and he'd need to upgrade the rest of the car too (trans, suspension, brakes, tires, etc)
