Nasty reverse clunk

Hey Acurazine, so i just went to pull my car out of the garage to let it air out cause it smells like paint (my own projects etc.). And so i shift my car into reverse like always and there is basically the usual clunk into reverse that i heard is part of how our transmissions are. Anyways, i ended up having to reverse and adjust my parking twice and when i shift from drive to reverse, it PAUSED for like 2 seconds then JOLTED/JERKED into reverse. I ended up doing it again and there it was, the delay then it jerked into reverse. The car has not warmed up yet and im not sure what is going on?

any experience this before? I've checked my front motor mount and it seems fine. The rear im not sure, but yeah could this be a tranny mount or engine mount? The car drives perfectly fine. Anyone?

I have same "problem" I don't really pay it mind yet. I just keep hold of the break until everything's ready. Not sure what it is tho.

I also had this clunk when going into reverse. Dealership said it was normal... :/ I ended up engaging parking brake every time before setting car to P. It reduced the clunk.

I always let the car sit/warm up for 3-4 minutes before trying to shift any gears/modes.

Viscous oil could be hindering your smooth entry into Reverse so let the oils warm up and coat the metals.

As far as I know the sound isn't normal and should be taken into consideration as early signs of transmission problems.

My tranny makes the same noise going into reverse, but is less apparent when the car is fully warmed up.

I'd say no, it's not normal because the only times my transmissions have had a clunk when going into reverse was when I was parked on an incline and did not have the parking brake engaged. But then again I'm also on my 3rd transmission on my 06.

I've had the sound since I got the car (07 Model) at 130k miles. I'm at 170k now with the same transmission. So my engine and trans is running 170k milles on it. It shifts smoothly from 1,2,3,4,5. The only hiccups I get are from P to G,R or from N to G,R. I let my car warm up for at least 10 mins before moving. Its not a problem atm but I definitely don't ignore it. When I bought the car I had already knew of the transmissions problems in the previous models. So I bit the bullet and now I'm just waiting for mine to go out. If it ever does...

When I had my 2G TL, it would have the same clunk...the dealer told me that my motor/tranny mounts were shot. I traded the car in, so I can't report if that would have cured it or not.

Mine had the delay as well. My girlfriends 07 TSX also had a small delay but it wasn't as bad as my TL.
