The Monday Morning BS That Awaited Me

So I parked my car for a few days over the weekend and used my wife's car. I come out Monday morning only to discover that some d-bag had backed into my car. Did they leave any information? Of course not! Why leave information when you can get away with damaging somebody's car?

The hood is bent slightly so that there's a big gap between it and the fender on the passenger's side. I'm guessing a body shop will want to replace it altogether. The bumper has deep scratches. I wonder if they will want to change the cover entirely or it can be fixed. How much do you think it will cost? I'm thinking a little over a grand (but hoping it's more like $800).

Sometimes people really piss me off!

If you have decent insurance, use the collision portion to get that repaired. My wife recently had an 'incident' with her car in the garage, and GEICO covered the repair minus the deductible (and accident 'forgiveness'), so my rates won't go up. Otherwise, that might be expensive for an out of pocket repair.

Dat yellow line. Did you take up two spaces?

Like someone already said, go through insurance and pay your collision deductible. Otherwise it's probably an expensive out of pocket repair.

That Sucks!

I agree with others, if the estimate is too high, go through insurance.

OP ...was that on the street? looks like someone tried to parallel park and hit the gas instead of the brakes.

That's hilarious! On what planet would splitting the cost of damage they caused be considered fair??

I have Geico so will probably go thru them after I get the estimate today.

I wasn't taking up two spaces. Those pics were actually taken after I moved it to our designated space in the parking lot (I usually let my wife have that space). The yellow you see in one of the pics isn't a line, it's actually a marker with my space number on it.

05Tilly, dang man it sucks, doesn't it? But the fact they expected you to split the cost is pure comedy!

man that sucks! But i know all to well how to feels to come to your car and some idiot has damaged it and took off!

The bumper can be fixed no need to buy a new one. if your insurance is good they should take care of everything.

Geico is whack!!!! They are trying to screw over my brother right now just cause the guy who t-boned him also has geico!

Yeah, I park on a little private street beside my condo. I'm pretty sure that's what happened as far as hitting the accelerator by accident but I'm sure it was a hard enough hit for them to know they did some damage. Taking off without leaving any information was no oversight.

Estimate came in at a surprising $2,770! And this was a place that Geico recommends for repairs. Looks like I'm definitely paying the deductible and using the insurance. I just hope my rates don't go up.

I have always had great experiences with Geico. I guess it depends on what agent you get when you call.

If you have a clean record I think they will not raise your rates- they (GEICO) have one accident forgiveness as I was told with the wife's SUV when in a minor fender bender recently (in the garage no less!). It's typical of the insurers these days. Anyway, best of luck getting it all sorted out. The only thing that sucks is having to pay the deductible. My wife's SUV was in a hit and run a few months ago (not the collision above). It was fixed, but I was on the hook for the deductible and despite the fact that she got the other driver's plate #, CT state police are pretty slow in terms of getting the report published so I can get my deductible back- that looks like it's going to take a while. I wonder if they're protecting the other driver (maybe he's of some importance in CT??).

There has to be more to this story...quite often it is much simpler when both parties have the same insurance company. At least for getting repairs handled and such.

Nope.

Bro was driving East bound had a full green light. Opposite traffic also had a green light while people who are turning left on the opposite side had a yield green light. The 18 year old who hit him never stopped for the yield green because he thought it was a green arrow. "Police report states this" and basically turned into my bros driver side cause him to do a 180 and slam into a street light pole. Car was completely totaled from driver side side airbag deployed. We obtained a surveillance video from a 7/11 showing the accident and it clearly shows the kid was at fault.

Anywho geico basically was saying we cant put a claim against our own company so they didnt really want to do anything. Until bro got a lawyer and the wheels starting moving.

sorry dont mean to thread jack. Glad to hear you are getting your car fixed. Rates shouldnt go up as you werent at fault or in the car when it happened. But they are an insurance company and they need to make $ some how.
