Missed Out On An AMAZING DEAL On a 2004 TL with Navi

On saturday a young lady posted her TL and I went to see it. She was asking for $3800 for a 2004 TL with Navi and 133K miles. It was silver exterior with Spoiler.

When I went to see it I didn't like it at all, not the car but the way it looked. The front seat had a tear and it was really dirty. The front grill was painted black too.
Also, it needed 2 new tires as the steering wheel was shaking violently when driving. All of this turned me off from looking at it more thoroughly so I left and later realized what a huge mistake I made not buying it.

Of course it's sold and now I am in Pain lol.

Point of the thread is so you guys can tell me how i can cope with such a great deal missed.

Happens to all of us. I came across an '08 base in NBP a couple months ago. I took it for a test drive. It had 52k miles on it, original owner, perfect condition, brand new Michelins from Costco, no accidents. Seller wanted $14.5k. I offered $13.5, before we agreed on $13.8. I set up an appointment the next morning to have the car inspected, and told that I would have cash in hand for the buyer. He texted me later that night and told me the car had been sold. I was pretty upset that he didn't even give me a chance to increase my price.

No, it was a private sale and I'm not about to leave someone with cash to hold a car. Hell, we shook on the deal, I called him an hour later to tell him the appointment time in the morning, he said that was fine. Then he texted me a couple hours later and said something came up and that the car was sold. Good for him if he got a better price, but I would have increased my offer because I really wanted that car.

Yeah I know when a seller does that it's the worst. But my situation was completely my fault and inability to take a risk. I got burned in the past on used cars so I didn't want to take another risk. But damn what a great deal I missed.

He should have gave the guy $100 to completely seal the deal and asked him to take down the ad.

If it wasn't meant to be it wasn't meant to be. You know the old saying- a deal too good to be true...it may have had other issues that would have cost more $$ to get the way you want it to be

Happened to me around a year and a half ago for a small Mercedes C230 Coupe Kompressor (2005 I think). It was a lower mileage one, interior was so clean and so was the exterior minus a bit of curb rash on the wheels. 1 owner, who was looking to sell it because he was going back to his country.
My brother was looking for a car and so I went to look at it with him. Turns out it was kind of stretching his budget (he was looking for a beater $1500 max) at $2000.

2 days after I realized I could buy it myself instead and flip it for $4000 at least. Called the guy and it was sold. You win some you lose some they say. Sometimes you're too slow.

Dude, this is small money compared to what you can do in your lifetime with your career/savings/etc.

Don't fret too much about it.

You don't know if it had been totaled before, or had been driven to the ground and now basically needs new trans/motor/etc./etc.

Usually something this good to be true...usually is. As the saying goes.

This happened to me recently as well. I had been eyeing a used truck. 2003 Chevy S-10 with only 114k miles. Asking about $3200 for quick sale I could have easily flipped the truck for about $6000 in my area where they are highly sought out for.

But by the time I tried to schedule a time to check it out, it had been sold already. It was listed on CG for less than 2 days, and it was located in a different county.
-

Also when my younger cousin was looking for her first car and a budget of $2000. A gem of a car a 2001 Nissan Atlima GLE with 78k miles, 1 owner, all service records, Clean title (elderly owned) asked $2,300 for quick sale. Many comps in the L.A. area with miles, year and condition were about $4000. I wasnt able to see it due to travels being long, but my cousin would be able to go with her dad as I was the second caller on the car.

It was literally a race to see who could get there the fastest. I saw it when it was posted at 14mins off CG. I knew she had to jump on it, and kept telling the owner we have cash in hand, we can be there, but owner said I was second person and he will let the first person check it out.

We were hoping the first party would not buy it, and sure enough they didn't we were next and well she bought the car. When it comes to good finds, you must jump on them cautiously just to make sure your not getting a dud.

When it comes to cars, there's no such thing as a good deal. People aren't stupid when it comes to selling cars. For 3800, i'd rather get a nicer civic than a beat to shit TL.

That owner was asking about 10% the original price of the TL. And likely settled for a bit less anyway. That doesn't send off warning bells for you?

To be honest I would've bought the car if the spoiler wasn't there. It made the car look really bad. I know it's oem but man it makes it look really ugly. Also the black grill turned me off..

No you wouldn't have. Really, a spoiler can be removed....That is not part of the reason you didn't buy it, and if it wasn't there you still wouldn't have bought it.

ok just a FYI if you get a car so called a "deal" then later don't expect the car will be perfect without extra work to make it a reliable DD. just my .02

Nope.

Or you get a non spoiler trunk from Craigs or a member....

I believe Rockstar 143 has went back and forth on his spoiler on his 3G... Had it one for a while and now it's off.

You'd likely be better off in something like this. 6MT one owner. Has miles but the price seems reasonable

Someone is selling a 05 6mt for $5500 with 175k in my area. Isn't that too many miles?

Ahh, not worth it. I've missed out like that before only to see it listed again by someone else flipping it. Kinda sucks but just forget it at this point

It could be too many or maybe not. It all comes down to who owned it and how it was maintained. I bought my 07 typeS with 173k on it. Got it for what I feel was a good price. It was very well cared after, 1 owner with dealer records, and lived its life in a warm climate with no road salt. To me, on a well cared after Honda, higher miles isn't such a big factor. Yeah, some things will obviously possibly be in need of attention, but I'd rather have a high mileage pampered one than a low mileage beat on one

Yup, how it was maintained is the key factor. I might call him and see what he says.

No, I'm telling you it's not worth it to call him out on it.

Also, make up your mind, first you go I would have bought it if it didn't have the spoiler, now you're trying to get the new owner to sale it to you for the price he paid (which will not happen).

Let it go, there will be better deals out there, you will probably get that car and have to put $$$ into it. Shouldn't have sold your TL to your uncle.

Ok fine. It's a waste of time anyway because I honestly don't want a TL with a spoiler.
