It's official. '06 AT TL has no top speed governor.

I don't think any Acura I have ever owned has had one. They have an RPM rev limiter and that's about it. I love it when I would run with a GM and at 110mph they would shut down. Shit was to funny.

I hit just a hair north of 160mph with it still barely climbing and backed out of it. Previous best on flat land was ~152mph. This is indicated and I'm sure the speedo is off by a few mph at that speed, especailly with my .10" smaller diameter tires. Regardless of actual speed, the computer saw over 160 and didn't cut power.

As TLFourplay said and proved, top speed of an 07 TL-S with 6MT is limited at 150 mph.
However as I hate cars and I said, 05 TL 6MT and 06 TL (with whatever his transmission is) is NOT limited at 150 mph. Maybe the they are limited at higher speed or don't have a limiter at all.
In short, we're talking about 3 different cars. Maybe Honda/Acura changed the ECU for 07 and up?
Hell, I went 150 mph (indicated) on my 00 Accord V6 while going downhill. I didn't hit the speed limiter either.

what's the point of this except getting you in a trouble? if highway patrol catches you doing this, oh......man.....it will be ugly. you'll get a huge fine plus your car gets impounded....and you'll go to jail eventually. so.........pretty please stop fuckin' encouraging people with this macho shit. and fuck you who ever started this useless thread

ok.. so some of you have asked the question why Honda//Acura would put a limiter on a 07 TL-S instead of a 04-06 TL.. then i ask u this.. IF they did put the limiter on the 04-06, why not on the 2nd gen TL?? i remember reading while back that the 2nd gen TL did not have a limiter, and people have hit high speeds with the 2nd gen....

I drove the autobahn all the time for 7 months and almost every time hit the limiter. I dont need a petty lecture that maybe its the wind. I had a 00 ford focus, limited to 108mph, had a 94 sentra limited to 120mph adn a 95 GMC Sonoma limited to 95mph. All feel the exact same when they hit their limited speeds.
I appreciate that bro. I mean I honestly dont think its too hard to notice the speed limiter kicking in on my vids. Although its not the rev limiter, its the top speed limiter because in 6th gear I am running 5200 rpm's. I think thats what you meant. I dont want the hate cars dude to misconstrue it though.
In closing all I have to say is that 07 TL-S is speed limited to 150mph. Also car and driver has always posted that the TL is limited to 152mph.
Regardless of rims I have on, going uphill or downhill with or against the wind my gauge has NEVER went beyond 150mph.

Your video is hard to see. You hit the revlimiter, that was obvious. Shifted gears and I didn't see the needle climb hard and then stop, it just hovered there. You were in the car and I wasn't so I take your word for it that it hit a limiter. The only reasoning I can see is the TL-S has the power to obtain a higher top speed and requires a limiter.
What is the speed rating of the stock tires on the S?

From Car & Driver on the 2004 Acura... Now, I am not sure this is accurate... but it says governor limited....
If someone has the the shop manual... they can look it up...
My bet is there is a governor no matter what someone said they were doing going downhill... speedos are very bad at high speed... you might have only been doing 145... would it care??? I don't know.. but I don't believe they would remove something without a model year change..
C/D TEST RESULTS
ACCELERATION (Seconds)
Zero to 30 mph 2.2
40 mph 3.3
50 mph 4.4
60 mph 5.7
70 mph 7.6
80 mph 9.4
90 mph 11.9
100 mph 14.6
110 mph 17.8
120 mph 21.8
130 mph 28.6
Street start, 5-60 mph 6.3
Top-gear acceleration, 30-50 mph 10.4
50-70 mph 10.3
Standing 1/4-mile 14.4 sec @ 99 mph
Top speed (governor limited) 152 mph

WOT in the new ATLP V2s!

I know this is old but maybe someone can clarify. I had an '05 auto TL that I hit well over 140mph in but not past 150mph....I think my new '08 Type-S hit the governor at 130mph. Is this true, did I hit a gust of wind and/or can I get the governor removed? Not that I go that fast that often but it is nice to pull away quickly as most american cars hit it at 120mph.

ya know my yamaha vino 125 is governed to a max of 62mph limiter however I have hit faster speeds going down hill becuase even though the engine is governed, it still gets assistance from gravity and that plus the engine will cause the biike will go faster - up to 68mph......
saying that your car has no govenor beucase you are going down hill = u didn't think this one through.......

subinf I know this is a revival, but at the downhill makes you go a lot faster comment.

its usually governed by limiting the rpm in the transmission I think. The 04-06 TL's can reach excess of 150mph no problem, however 07-08 automatics(including type S) cut off around 135(some say 132) due to the different transmission.
I know the TL speedo isnt that accurate at 150mph but I have had a GPS up to about 100 and the tl speedo was pretty spot on. I do notice that with stock sized tires(235/45/17) the speedo always reads slightly higher(2-3mph) but with my 245/40/18 tires, it's close to perfect since it's got a marginally bigger overall diameter. I could make a video if it if you guys dont believe me
I've never tried using the GPS after 100mph as I rarely go that fast

that's awesome as it's governed at 150 or 155. It's been so long since I read the top speed I forgot. how did you determine top speed? GPS? The speedo in the TL is NOWHERE near accurate when you max out the car...
yeah because gravity has NO effect on acceleration.... lol
yeah because gravity has NO effect on acceleration.... lol
hmmmm i went off the speedomemeter so if it isnt accurate then my speed wasn't accurate all i know if it felt like the car was fixing to start flying so i backed off

I'm a speed lover! My TL maxed out at 140 about 2 yrs ago...i'm sure the gravity had something to do with it lol. Now that i have 2 kids i hate going past 80 mph now .

Paperboy,
I'll confirm your statement. My 08 Type S (Auto) dies at 138 (indicated, stock rims and tires), which reasonably speaking is 135 + or - the gauge accuracy.
I've driven GM's (corvettes/camaros) which are limited to 155, they have a "hard" stop. They have the balls to go faster, but it's like hitting a wall and you instantly start losing speed or "bouncing" off the limit.
The TL is a "soft" stop, it just stops going faster. Car doesn't feel like it's having a real issue accelerating, RPM's aren't maxed, it just stops going faster right around 135.
