Intro - 2008 TL

Greetings,

Just purchased my Nighthawk Black Pearl 2008 Non-Nav TL.

Love it so far. Dealer is replacing perforated seat panels, bringing the condition to Excellent.

The only thing wrong seems to be the fog lights. Indicator comes on, and I can hear the relay clicking under the dash. Next step, checking the bulbs and wiring.

I live in San Diego, CA. (More specifically, San Marcos)

Cheers

Thomas

Thanks! My main concern is having them work reliably, whether it's by fixing the stock ones, or upgrading. Are there better ones that will not be as prone to shorting out, or whatever happened?

3 options:
1)replace bulb with stock type bulb. (I personally got PIAA Extreme White bulbs... a lot less yellow than the originals)
2) HID kit
3) LED lights(check Frosty's thread on this page)

only issues with 2 & 3 is, you risk "blinding" oncoming traffic with these. Some will argue this, but whatever....
i chose the safe route with option 1

Congratulations Olorin! I would go with option #3; having done that recently. I went with the ijdm lights:

HID Equivalent CREE High Power LED plus 12-SMD 9005 9006 LED Bulbs $35.99 for a pair.

Good luck with the car.

I live pretty close and often go to San Marcos, so I'll keep an eye out for a 08 NBP TL when I'm in the area.

People with HID's in fogs are just darn right annoying...and blinding, unless they found a way to bring ridiculous glare down to reasonable levels. With such high quality HID headlamps that the TL has, I'm not sure why people even turn their fogs on. Mine are never used, they do nothing to help my visibility when driving at night.
For the OP, I personally say just get them fixed to OEM.

LEDs are supposed to throw much less glare. Surprised to hear you say the fogs don't help you at night. They are supposed to flood light low to the ground and immediately in front and to the sides of you car. They aren't meant for distance.

Yeah infact driving home from work last night at 10pm I even played around with the fogs just to see exactly what they do for illumination. I mean they do exactly as you said they should they put a little more light directly in front and sides of the car, but my argument is that in no way does that help in normal driving conditions. I suppose as they were intended that in foggy conditions going very slow being able to see off to the sides could be beneficial, but going anything over 20mph seeing that close in front of the car a little better does nothing. The headlights work so well that I just have no reason to have the fogs on as well. Thats a good thing

I always have mine on as well. They are there, so I figure, why not use them? Did you see Frosty's thread on LEDs?

Most of it, yes.
i believe there were only a couple people with 07-08 that tried them. Maybe i'm wrong...? I would have looked into them more if i just didn't replace mine with the PIAA's
Would like to see more pics on a 07-08...

There are one or two who have done it on 07-08 models, but I wasn't entirely convinced they were fitting properly. Frosty and one other member thought I might have been confusing fitment others were having with their DRLs. Frosty came back and answered that they are in fact plug and play for 07-08 lower bezel fogs. I haven't done anything at this point.
