I broke my SRS Spring Coil... =(
As the title states, I'm a dumbass and I broke my SRS spring coil. I was trying to remove my steering wheel and everything was going well. I got the airbag off, the steering wheel bolt came off relatively easy and all the wires were unplugged. The wheel wouldn't budge though, so I pulled a little harder than i should have and I pulled the front part of the spring coil assembly with it.
The back of the assembly remained on the column and the entire coil unraveled in-between. I tried to put it all back in but I don't think its going to work the same...
I think it messed up my positioning for the wheel going back on too...
Any suggestions on what to do now? I need to order a new coil.. any ideas where to start looking?
Any help to re install and how to proceed from here would be greatly appreciated. My dumbass thanks you in advance.

lol happens to a lot of people, clockspring front comes apart from the back, unraveling everything
if you replace the clockspring, get it from ebay or junk yard.

Hummm, im having a hard time picturing what happened here. Between my current 07 Type S, and other TL's I have had I have removed the steering wheel multiple times and dont recall there being anything that can come apart or unravel. If I remember correctly the clock spring doesn't come off with the steering wheel, that stays on the steering column so im trying to figure out how that came off with the wheel.
Anyway, sorry to hear about that. One piece of good news is I think you will be fine as far as steering wheel position. The wheel is placed in a set of grooves so its not like it can go back in any random position. You will however have to make sure you got it back in the same set of grooves it was originally in otherwise yes your wheel will be off center. When you put it back together just put the wheel where you think it needs to go then drive around the block. If its off center one way just pull the wheel and put it back in the next set of grooves over.

I'm currently trying to search for the answer right now, but do you guys know if there is a different clock spring for different models or do some models share the same part? I'm more concerned with the type S one being somehow different that others. I also read something about a different clock spring for models with or without navi??
I read in another post someone used an accord clock spring for their TSX, and even though the part numbers were different, it fit and worked well for half the cost new.
And on Ebay I saw someone selling one clockspring for any CL, TL, and MDX.

Okay so I answered my own question with a bit of research. For anyone with this problem in the future, the clock springs may be different with year and model, easiest way is to check the part number on most Acura parts websites.
The part number for an 07 08 TL Clockspring with Navi is 77900-SEP-A11. Description: Reel Assy., Cable (Furukawa).
Question for you GuitarPlayer16 since you're also from somewhere in Ontario... Do you recommend any Junkyards I can go to around the Mississauga area?

Thanks GP16. I was actually trying them as i read your reply! Searched kijiji and they came up as having clock springs for all sorts of cars.
Just waiting to hear back from the guy now.. apparently hes running late today.

Okay, so grand auto got back to me with a clock spring from a 07 TL-S (just like mine) for $120 all in and I can pick it up today. I've called stealerships and they're asking for $97.68 + tax (13%) for a brand new one but it will take a couple days to get it in.
Which one would you guys go with? And is the fact that the new one is already centered worth waiting for?

I'd bring up the price of a new one to them and see if they can do better than 120.

wow, 3 votes for new in less than 10 minutes. Guess that settles that... I went ahead and ordered a new one from the stealer. Thanks for your input.
In the meantime, is there anywhere that takes me through how to remove the old one for a TL and put on a new one? I've found quite a bit of stuff, but nothing specifically for the TL.
...this may be a stupid question, but can I drive with the busted one, if i put my wheel back on (without the airbag in of course)?

You risk ripping the ribbon when you turn the wheel if it's not installed correctly.
