Headlight HID turned pink

So my passenger headlight turned pink last night. I did a search and it looks like it's on the verge of dying completely.

I ordered a pair of aftermarket 6000k for $30 on Amazon. I can't see buying the Sylvania or Phillips for $100 each ....

Just wanna know if anybody has done this replacement before and what it entails . I hope I don't have to remove the bumper

And in the case of HIDs, usually it's a "get what you pay for" kinda thing. There are some good "budget" brands out there such as Morimoto, but if you got a generic set off Amazon, the light output won't be as bright. It'll already go down a bit due to you getting 6000k bulbs, but the quality of the bulbs themselves may not be up to par.

If you're going to the trouble...swap to Osram CBI. They are insanely awesome.

I wouldn't recomend buying aftermarket bulbs. They tend to melt the plastic inside. I would get the morimoto bulbs or OEM bulbs. I have 3 sets of oem bulbs for sale if you are interested...

I'm gonna say that that's total bullshit, man. Sorry...I do agree that OEM and reputable brands are likely better quality but can't scare him into that sale!

I would be shocked if you could provide and evidence that a cheap bulb burns any hotter than a quality one. Lower lumen output, color shift, or even life span...sure...but not catastrophic failure.

You should have purchased these man.

D2S: Morimoto XB35 - HID Bulbs - Components

They come with a 2 year warranty from one of the best HID lighting retailer that exists online..

They have been around for a few years and they are REPUTABLE and have a pretty big following on various enthusiast forums.

I'm willing to bet your $30 amazon HID bulbs will have less lumen output and will turn pink a lot sooner again compared to your OEM bulb and Morimoto bulbs.

osrams and philips are considered OEM. if you seriously knew anything about your own oem bulbs you would know that they say OSRAM on them. the bulbs that was recommended was osram cbi, and is much better than your oem osram 66040

I just noticed you said $100/EACH.

If you go to TheRetroFitSource.com you'll see that they sell Phillips 85122 & Osram oem (not the cool blue intense) for $95 a PAIR

Yeah...I had 85122+ on the S2000 and although not as blue...it was also insanely bright. Great option!

If you go above 5000k you'll have less light output.

Cheaper bulbs do make burn marks on the back of the projector bowl..Actually learned that from JNC..

but here ya go:

Acura - TL - 3rd Gen 2004-2008 - Bulbs - EndLess RPM

Scott: it is true that past 5k it starts loosing lighting output from the color, but the bulbs go by intensity and lets say a 180$ phillips pair would still be stronger than a cheap ebay bulb even if the $180 pair is 10k because the intensity is that much better to begin with. plus that why you can't find quality bulbs in 8-10-12....its just nice to look at. I never understood why people do that because its only killing the lighting intensity and forbid an accident occur OP can just tell the cop you have illegal lights and you'll get the ticket even if it was their fault.

I just had the same thing recently happen to mine and I recently posted a thread here as well. The link is below

https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...ements-919977/

If you're not dead set on your amazon bulbs, id consider the Morimotos. In my thread you'll see I posted a link to a comparison that theretrofitsource did and the bulbs perform favorably considering their price. They are by far the best bang for your buck you can the. TRS also has a coupon for the acurazine, which brings down the price a bit more too. Ive had them new for at least a month, and they've been amazing. Again, my only comparison was my old dying bulbs, but the difference is night and day. they 5500k's are a really nice ice white color

As far as actually changing the bulbs out, do yourself a favor and remove the bumper. Go ahead and try to change it through the wheel well, but I think you'll quickly realize that its alot more difficult then lead on. Removing the bumper is a few, very straight forward bolts and plastic clips. After the bumper is removed, there is only a few more bolts on each side to remove the entire headlight. You dont have to struggle with trying to remove the security bit, messing with the tricky spring clip, or dealing with any other of the nuances in tight quarters.

At best, I say you can save 30min at the job if you nail it first shot by doing it through the wheel well. At worst, you'll spend hours extra with your hand crammed trying to feel how things go back together and end up frustrated and removing the bumper anyways.

There is a great video to show you the simplicity of removing the bumper on youtube. Just google "Acura TL front bumper removal" and it should be the first to appear.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

No need to go crazy guys. And it just so happens that I do know things. No need to start talking shit. My reference to to aftermarket builds are the ones on ebay that cost like $20 or $30. And it was already proven that cheap aftermarket bulbs will burn/melt the inside housing

Turns out it was just the bulb ! Paid my mechanic $40 to replace them both so they would be the same light output.

But I now have a problem where when I lock my doors the driver side turn signal and side marker doesnt flash. Only the passenger side flashes.

This is strange because my turn signal still works and the doors still lock. The driver side doesn't light up though.

Could it be a fuse?

Thanks for all the help guys!

You're welcome!

It might be your multiplex unit...or he forgot to plug something back in. Unplug your car battery for 2 minutes to reset everything, check fuses while you wait. Report back.

I had the same issue you're describing a few weeks ago.

My money is on the running filament being out or the prongs in the socket may not be making solid contact. We run the 7443 style bulbs similar to the one on the left below.

Inside our bulb is two filaments, one lights up when the turn signal is activated and the other lights up when the running lights are activated (your side marker makes a connection through your running light, so when you lock it, the side marker doesn't flash either.)

It's also possible the bulb was just flipped by your mechanic, either way, I'm pretty sure that running light/turn signal is the root cause. At least I had the same problem you did and that's what it ended up being.

P.S. - Hope you're listening to the posts in this thread and not using the bulbs you ordered from Amazon for your headlights, good chance you end up really regretting it.

Could u provide me with a link for the replacement bulb? Can't seem to find it online.

Is the installation pretty simple that I could do myself ?

Your turn signal bulb is a 7443.

Just go to your local auto parts store or walmart and ask for 7443 bulb or go to the light bulb aisle and look for one that is labeled 7443.

Installation is very simple. I changed my turn signal bulbs in a parking lot of a restaurant. All you need is a flat head screw driver to remove the plastic clip holding the fender liner in place and than pry the fender liner open so you can reach your arm in to replace the bulb.

Ack: all I gave him was the replacement hid bulbs to install so I doubt he did the resistors.

I will replace the mini turn signal bulb and see what happens. Will this make my side marker work again as well? I didn't know they were connected

oh. The stock bulb is a dual wire…chances are he broke the one wire while installing the HID bulb..both light up with parking lights? If not…bulbs is broke..since its both turn signal and parking lights...

It should make them work, you may have to flip it around, I would install, test to see if everything works right, then stick it back in the housing, if it doesn't flip it and everything should work right, I didn't know they were connected either until everything started working suddenly.
