G-029: DIY Independent Fog Lights WITH Stock Switch
I searched high and low for information on how to do this, and while I found many threads with bits and pieces of information, there was no single DIY thread or a very straight forward procedure. Also, many of them required extra relays/switches and did not retain the function of the stock combination switch, which was key for me.
PURPOSE
Allowing independent use of OEM fog lights. Following this DIY will enable you to turn your fog lights on/off once you have your keys in the ignition turned to allow accessory power. Your lights will never stay on once your keys are removed and will not shut off with your high beams.
APPLICATION
This DIY was performed on a 04-06 TL but I believe this procedure will also apply to the 07/08 models (Don't quote me on this).
MATERIALS
-Wire (I used both 16 & 12 gauge)
-Connectors, t-taps, electrical tape (I come from a long line of twisters and tapers lol. I made a personal vow to improve my sloppy wiring on my next car so now I prefer to use solder and heat shrink tubing on all my projects)
-Inline fuse (10A)
Step 1:
Remove the plastic cover surrounding the base of the steering wheel. There are 3 screws and clips around the edge where the two halves meet. You will also eventually need to remove the under dash panel.
Step 2:
Locate the clip that goes to the combination switch. Cut the blue/white wire and connect the switch side of the wire to your thinner gauge extension wire. Tape everything back up and attach the connector back into its socket.
Step 3:
Now you need to run this wire through your firewall and into the engine bay. You can easily accomplish this through a spot up on the firewall near the center of your car. The stock wiring harness runs through here, and right next to this you will see a black cap (view through engine bay). Remove the cap and use this location to run your wire. I used a metal hanger and stuck it down from the engine bay through the hole, puncturing the foam liner. I then found the tip of the hanger on the other side and taped the wire on the tip of the hanger and pulled it though the engine bay. I then poked a hole on the cap to reassemble (you are now done with all the wiring under the dash so you can put this together or just move on to the engine bay wiring).
Step 4:
Now you need to locate the Fog Light relay which is a small back box attached to the main fuse box. Take the top and bottom covers off, giving you access to the wiring. Snip the skinny blue/black wire and attach the relay end of this wire to the wire you just ran through the firewall.
Step 5:
Now at this point you have bypassed the control unit and now have complete control of your fog lights, BUT you would need to remember to turn them off because they would stay on even with the car off. So we need to give this relay a different switched power source.
- Locate the thick blue/red wire directly across from the wire you just connected. Cut this wire and attach your thicker gauge wire to the relay, you will only need like 6-10 inches.
Step 6:
Now for the accessory power I used the green wire that powers the windshield wipers. Cut a slit in this harness and tap into the green wire with your inline fuse.
Step 7:
Now all you need to do is connect the other end of the inline fuse to black wire you just connected to the blue/red wire on the relay and you're done!! You now have complete control of your fog lights with your stock switch!!
Done Clean install!
Top it off with a 3000K HID kit you can't go wrong!
Any questions let me know! I hope this is garage worthy!

Nice DIY.
If I add the ebay accord fogs, can I still do this mod? I'd basically bypass using the JDM switch that came with the accord fogs. But then the headlight fogs would also turn on.
Do you guys think I can disconnect the headlight fogs and just run the accord fogs with this DIY?

To be honest I don't really think that inline fuse is even necessary. If you look at the diagram the wiper motor (green wire) is only providing accessory power to activate the relay it does not provide power to the fog lights so there is no current draw on that line in the first place. The actually power is drawn from the other "factory line" running strait to the battery at that already has a 20A fuse built in. In general though the rule of thump is use the lowest fuse possible and move up from there.

Yes you could do both. If your goal is to have the factory combination switch turn on both sets of fog lights that is more then possible I can help you with a schematic if you want to do that. When I get my accord fog lights I personally will be running them to a separate switch in the empty slot we have so I can have total control of them. Also if your two sets of fog lights are linked together with the factory switch you cant use your headlight/fogs alone as DRL's which was part of my goal.
